INTRODUCTIONHuman Resource Management is an approach that is used for managing peopleeffectively in an organisation in order to help its people to have completive advantage. HRM isdeveloped to increase efficiency of employees and to increase performance (human resourcemanagement (HRM), 2019). For an organisation and its growth, it plays an significant role suchas by managing job recruitment and selection and promotion and it also helps to overseebenefits of employees and oversee programmes. It provides guidelines regarding disciplinaryactions and orientation programmes. Human Resource Management basically includes acquiringefficient workforce and improving their morale. It involves hiring right amount of employees forperforming given tasks and providing them proper training. This project is divided into twotasks. In Task 1, Chocolate Presence is a rapidly growing manufacture company that is located inNorth Yorkshire. It provides hand made tailor made chocolate based greeting cards which isexpanded across United Kingdom. Due to increasing turnover of this company and unsatisfiedcustomers, it is hiring new people in this organisation for different departments. Different criteriahas been set in order to select and recruit applicants for this enterprise. Here, HRM plays an vitalrole in smooth functioning of selection and recruitment process. In Task 2, Microsoft is amultinational American based company that operates in computer software. This companyprovides healthy working culture to its employees in order to motivate them towards achievingtheir goals. Here, HRM plays an vital role in managing various activities in an organisation. TASK 1a) Purpose and importance of HR functionsThe HR department serves various functions in an organisation for achieving objectivesof an organisation by smooth running of a business. Without these functions, company will notable to meet necessary needs of staff and management (Albrecht and et. al., 2015). It is the dutyof HRM department for better performance of employees by providing timely and relevantguidelines. HR function is important for every kind of business . Medium or small organisationslike Chocolate Presence which is a niche company, required to perform such functions toimprove the quality of employees and smooth running or recruitment and selection procedures. Itserves following functions-
Recruitment and Selection- Recruitment refers to a process to identify potentialapplicants to apply for a job vacancy in an organisation whereas Selection means selecting rightcandidate among various candidates suitable for a job. These are the most signifiant functions ofHRM which helps in improving the quality of employees by proper hiring and selection. In thisprocess, deserving candidates are selected among various candidates which saves both time andmoney of an organisation (Bratton and Gold, 2017). The main objective of these functions are toincrease efficiency of workforce by choosing deserving candidate. Chocolate Presence can hireemployees with help of appropriate recruitment and selection process.Planning- It involves to plan regarding sources of recruitment and selection for meetingpresent and future needs of hiring workforce for an organisation. Proper planning helps insaving time, money, avoids shortage of employees, and helps in balancing between demand andsupply of workers for fulfilling organisational objectives. Chocolate Presence with the help ofproper planning can get employees which are efficient and effective. Training and Development- Training is a systematic approach in which workers areguided and trained matters that are related to their job profile. Where as, development refers tooverall growth of employees which makes them capable in performing a particular job profile.Employees are trained and developed in various aspects such as developing their soft skills,technical skills and so on. This is done in order to improve their performance so that they canmeet targets of organisation. Both these functions helps in improving quality and quantity ofworkforce and developing their skills and knowledge. Chocolate Presence can train and developits employees by giving them various training and development programmes (Bryson, 2017). Reward- This function of Human resource management means giving rewards toemployees for their efficient work. When workers achieve their goals than mangers reward themfor in order to motivate employees for better performance in future. Salary is not a rewardbecause it is received by workforce whether they work in an efficient manner or not. Reward canbe in both monetary and non monetary forms such as incentives, bonus, future growthopportunities, promotion, performance appraisal, recomposition, status and so on. Givenorganisation can motivate their employees by giving them rewards. This will result in increasingtheir performance and efficient working. Performance Management- This includes timely measuring or analysing performance ofworkforce to check whether they are performing in an efficient manner or not. In Chocolate
