INTRODUCTIONHuman Resource Management helps the organisation in implementing innovative ideasso that they can increase productivity and enhance their market shares. If a company wants towork in a proper manner than they need Human resource management as this will help them inoperating their business in an effective manner. HRM provides all organisational needs in orderto increase the capabilities and potential of its workers. Company that has been taken in this assignment is T. J. Morris which is a retailcompany. The report focuses on the purpose and functions of HRM.Strengths and weaknesses ofdifferent approaches that is required for recruitment and selection process is included in thisassignment (Banks and Kepes, 2015). Further, benefits of human resource management practiceswithin an organisation for employee and employer is included here. Along with this, use ofdifferent HRM practice for increasing the profit and productivity is mentioned in this report. Keyelements of employment legislations and its impact upon HRM while decision-making isincluded in this assignment. TASK 1P1 Purpose and functions of HRM in workforce for planning and resourcingIn order to have a successful business, it is important that Human Resource Managementmaintains a proper relation between line management and company's workforce. Therefore, if anorganisation is big so, they are following hierarchical management system and it is helping themin performing their task in a systematic manner. Thus, HRM provides the necessity ofmanagement and protects the right of workers. Human Resource Management is established with a purpose of creating a healthyenvironment at workplace so that effective growth can be gained by the company. Some of the purposes of HRM department are mentioned below so as to understand it in a bettermanner: Purpose of Human Resource ManagementInternal customer of Management:There are various purposes that are performed byHRM. Their main role is to implement necessary policies so that they can recruit and retainquality workforce (Bowman and Van Wart, 2012). There is a direct relationship between humanresource management and financial department of any company. As workers that are selected by1

them are helping the organisation in achieving their set targets in speculated period of time.Along with this, they assist the organisation in providing compensation, in making a proper teamstructure. Laws: There are certain rules and regulation that are to be followed by an organisationwhile conducting recruitment and selection process. This includes better understanding of normssuch as how to select and terminate a candidate and these are formulated by regulatory bodies ofa country. For example: if a company wants to hire a union labour than firm must understand thelaws and negotiations skills first, as this will enable them in making better relations withemployees. Other than this, laws related to equal opportunity are incorporated by lawyers of the firmso that company can follow them in order to maintain healthy environment (Chelladurai andKerwin, 2017). Metrics: Human resource management has a direct link with all departments in anorganisation. They perform their activities like solving issues of strategic matters, making ofbudget plan so as to achieve the set goals and objectives. Further, companies make use of metricsmethod in order to analyse costs to create effective strategies at all levels. Cultural sensitivity: In an organisation, people belonging to different culture work forattaining a common goal. Therefore, to maintain a healthy environment, it is essential thatmanager of a company maintain an understanding between employees. Thus, their prime role isto manage people of different cultures. Functions of Human Resource ManagementThis can be classified into two categories that are stated below so as to understand it in aneffective manner (Dul Ceylan and Jaspers, 2011). Managerial functions:Planning: This is considered as the prime function of HRM and for achievingorganisational growth; they make proper planning of strategies. Thus, planning helps them inexecuting the plan in better manner and in right directions. Staffing: Human Resource Department plays a crucial role in hiring candidates who canperform for organisation to achieve desired goals and objectives. Therefore, entire process ofstaffing includes performance of employees, training and development of employees etc. 2
