INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is defined as the collection of all those activities related top
the human capital working in the organisation. Majorly, human resource management deals with
the issues and problems related to the employees of business firm. It include several activities
such as recruitment and selection, salary of employees, promotion, solving conflicts, motivation
and many more (Ahmad, S., 2022). The chosen organisation for this report is Sainsbury Plc
which is a British multinational chain of supermarket having headquarter in London, England,
United Kingdom. It is found as the second largest chain of supermarkets in UK. This report
include purpose and function of HRM, strengths & weaknesses of approaches of recruitment and
selection, advantages of HRM practices, effectiveness of HRM activities along with the
importance of employee relation. In addition to this, it also deal with the key element of
employment legislation and application of HRM practices in a work related context.

P1 Explain the purpose and the functions of HRM, applicable to workforce planning and
resourcing an organisation.
Human resource management is responsible for managing the employees along with
developing the employee oriented culture in the business organisation. Along with this, HRM
also perform the actions related to the development of level of capabilities and skills of
employees by providing them training. Human Resource management focus on increasing the
efforts towards the goals and objectives of business organisation. It perform several of functions
in order to attain the objectives of organisation.
Purpose of HRM
The Human Resource Manager of Sainsbury have to perform several actions based on
their purpose. Below mentioned are some purpose of HRM of Sainsbury:
Achieve organisational goals: The main purpose of HRM is to use the human resource
in an efficient manner in order to achieve the organisational goals and objectives.
These objectives include managing the staff requirements such as retirement,
recruitment and many more (Bedford, D. and et. al., 2022).
