Self-analysis
Problem analysis
I have a problem with vertigo and I do not want to go to mountains. It is a psychological
challenge for me to spend holidays in mountains because I do not have interests in the heights.
To me holiday should be like fun and food where I can rest and do whatever I want that I cannot
get in my busy professional schedule. Moreover, I have fear of death and the mountain roads are
very steep and full of uncertain dangers. It is impossible for me to take a mountain trip and ruin
my holiday. Therefore, I would like to buy tickets for a destination where I can easily visit and
fulfil my expectations properly. The alternative destinations will help me to choose the right one
that fits my holiday purpose and objectives.
Alternatives
There are several potential alternatives that I can opt for in order to choose the right
destination of holiday. For instance, I can opt for The Daintree in Queensland or Great Barrier
Reef for marine biology and the beauty of nature or else I can go Hamilton Island where long
beaches and luxury facilities are available.
My objective is to visit a place where I can rest and have good memories. It is very
important for me to have all the amenities and luxury facilities that are within my budget. At the
same time I am also looking for a place with great scenic beauty and fresh air. Therefore, all the
alternatives are choosing carefully so that it will meet my objectives properly.

Compare the alternatives
The Daintree Rainforest trip is very existing for people who love to visit in freshwater
creeks, dense tropical rainforest and pristine beaches. The budget is also very cheap with an
amount of $269 that includes the dormitory accommodation, meals and other facilities
(daintreerainforesttour.com.au, 2020).
On the other hand, The Great Barrier Reef trip offers $549 for two day and 1 night
(Cairnsattractions.com.au, 2020). It is a very unique tour with new experience. The overnight
Great Barrier Reef tour provides a luxury cruise travel with glass bottom boat and diving or
helicopter flights. Catered meal will also be provided with it. It is a very unique experience with
complete isolation and eternal peace.
In Hamilton Island, there are plenty of good things to do like good food, luxury
hotels, best beach views and a lot. The Hamilton Island Trip is a bit expensive but full of
luxurious amenities in the heart of nature (Hamiltonisland.com.au 2020).
The act of choice
For choosing the right destination, I compare the listed venues with my objectives. It is
important to note that I have a budget of AUD$ 1000 and I do not like to choose the destination
beyond my budget. As a matter of fact, the holiday will be 3 days maximum. Therefore, I have to
check on the schedules as well and figure out the best fitted destination for me. In respect to this,
the Great Barrier Reef tour is considered to be the best suited trip for me. It meets my schedule
of three day maximum with luxury, comfort and affordability. Whereas, the Daintree Rainforest
trip is a bit hectic and I do not want to walk explore. Hamilton Island tour is also fitted my

objectives but it is beyond my estimated budget. Therefore, it is not possible for me to invest a
lot for a two days trip.
Self-reflection from colleague
I have discussed my decision over buying the right holiday destination ticket. He got
thrilled by the choice of destination and remarked that the choice is apt and right for a 3 days
holiday. As per his concern, it is very important to set the objectives and an estimated budget
before going for a short or long trip. The set of objectives will help the tourist to find out places
that he or she is willing to go and sort out the right destination that can meet all the criteria of
choosing a destination to travel. I tell him about my less interest to travel in hill regions and the
potential risks that can pose danger. He laughed at me and told that there is no certainty of
danger in any places and I should check the destinations in hill region. I beg to differ with such
perception as I am not an adventures person and I like to take things simply. This is what I am.
He did not corroborate my argument and stated that I am also an adventurer and that leads me to
choose the destination to Great Barrier Reef. He argued that hiking and kayaking are not the only
means to prove one adventures. In my case, he felt that my way of spending the holiday isolated
and finding the beauty of nature of my own is very much associated with the notion of adventure.
Nevertheless, he disagreed the fact that I am an extrovert person. I told him that I am very
friendly with my colleagues and look after my family. I socialise with people in parties and
gatherings so that I do not think I am an introvert person. However, he nullified my viewpoint
and stated that my choice of destinations clearly reflected my nature of an introvert person. He
pointed out that my choice to go for a holiday in complete isolation is considered to be a clear
example of introversion. I did not choose popular destinations where huge crowds or gathering.

Rather I opted for solo destination and do relaxation. Perhaps he was right about my personality
that a introversion is deeply imbued in my personality. He also suggested me to contact with
some trip advisors so that they could provide enough light on preparing the list of potential
destinations. He was very certain that the list of destinations would be more exciting if I
discussed it with some professionals. As far as his understanding, the act of choosing destination
is good but the initial list should have been suggested by some trip advisor so that I could buy
tickets for better destination.
