Using ICT to Reduce Carbon Footprint, Screen Readers and Colorbrewer for Accessibility, Processes vs Projects in Computer Upgrades

This article discusses the use of ICT to reduce carbon footprint, making online content accessible with screen readers and colorbrewer, and the difference between processes and projects in computer upgrades. It also provides tips on how to manage PC power plans and reduce energy consumption.

Part 1
The computer program can be easily be accessed by Blind or visually impaired clients
with the help of screen readers. The screen readers are computer software, which directly
assists the blind or the visually impaired people in using the computers. It can be stated here
that it acts as a platform, which helps in the aspect of communication between the user and
the computer (Guo and Bigham 2018). Each of the screen readers comes along with a set of
commands, which are unique. Each of the commands performs a specific predefined
function.
Part 4
Clients who are colour-blind can use the concept of colorbrewer. This concept gives
the user a diverging, sequential and categorical (which is sometimes binary) palettes that are
very much colourblind safe. The concept can be modified according to the need of the user to
fit the style guide. They help the people to identify each colour very effectively and minimise
the problem which they are facing (Laudon and Laudon 2016).

Few ways in which organisation can use ICT to reduce carbon footprint are stated
below:
 Turning off the personal computers when not in use: Turning off the computer can
highly reduce the carbon footprint due to the factor that if they are kept on they
consume almost the same amount of electricity as four bright (non-energy saving)
lights on full time (Stewart and Khare 2018).

 Manage of PC power plan: Managing of the PC can be very much beneficial. Some
of the options which are available are stated below:
 Option of power saving when the pc is actively on.
 Turing off the monitor after a long period of inactivity.
 Activating the standby mode after a specific period of inactivity.
 Activating sleep or standby mode after a period of inactivity.
 Limited use of screen savers: It can be stated here that the use of screen savers can
be a part of personalising the personal computers. When they are directly triggered,
they can keep both the monitor and the computers active. They do not contribute to
any power saving options (Lazar, Feng and Hochheiser 2017).

The building a computer on a production line of identical computers can be
considered as a process, which involves a set of predefined task.
Part 2
Building a house as one of the series of identical houses can be considered as a
project. This is due to the factor that most of the emphasis would be put on the identical
aspect, which is the primary objective. Projects should have a specific aim (one aim) and in
this case, building the identical house is a part of the success factor of the project.
Part 3
Upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Window 10 can be stated as a project,
which may include a predefined set of operation. The implementation of the task would be
done according to a sequence of the task which already existed.

Upgrading all the 120 computers from window 7 to window ten can be considered as
a process due to the factor that it can consist of more than one process and a sequence of
actions. In most of the cases, it can be stated that the up gradation process involves a
predefined set of process, which has to be executed to reach to the goal. It can be stated here
that processes usually have a set of functions, which follow a specific pattern of activity
(Abbasi, Sarker and Chiang 2016).
