2ICT IN LIFELONG LEARNING Question 1 Information communication technology or ICT plays a major role in lifelong learning. In fact, ICT and lifelong learning are related to most other types of learning out there. It is very important in today’s time that a person learn new practical skills and technologies that will help him in furthering their career. One of the best ways of doing this is with e-learning. E-learning is a very big part of both lifelong learning and ICT. ICT incorporates technologies like use of internet, videos, pictures and audios to communicate things or give people knowledge. ICT skills can help elderly people learn how to use computers and mobiles through tutorials. ICT includes various other technologies like web learning, virtual worlds and mobile learning tools. ICT can be classified into informal, formal and non-formal learning types. Public libraries and internet are the academic lifelong learning resources. Question 2 The main aim of lifelong learning is to facilitate development of new skills in individuals using various resources including Information communication technologies. The first step to become a lifelong learner is to have a plan. The teachers or professors in a university or college must help in students in learning lifelong skills and teaching them the importance of lifelong learning. People in public offices or corporates can be given vocational training to enhance their lifelong learning skills. ICT in combination with public libraries and family learning can give cost free knowledge and teach people new skills. Using e-learning any person can develop new skills from the comfort of their homes and offices and become a lifelong learner. M learning, Web 3.0 and
3ICT IN LIFELONG LEARNING Web 2.0 are all useful ICT tools that can be used for lifelong learning. Thus, with the use of such tools and technologies, ICT has become the most important lifelong learning method globally. Question 3 a) To do the task I first searched for the term Information communication technologies or ICT on the internet. Then I used the internet again to find the relation between ICT and lifelong learning. During this process, I came across multiple websites and articles highlighting the use of ICT in lifelong learning and how it has benefitted so many people around the world. The tools used for lifelong learning are resources that is readily available around me and is free of cost. b) The task was a new experience to me. I was new to the concept of lifelong learning before studying this module. It was a revelation to me when I realized that I was actually being a lifelong learner while searching the web to learn about this topic. I was self-learning about a new thing while researching using resources available to me. It was an enjoyable and refreshing task. c) Doing this task, I learnt that everyone who uses the internet or other resources to self-learn is a lifelong learner. This even includes me. Most of the technologies we use in lifelong learning are a part of or related to ICT. d) Lifelong learning will help me develop skills that will further enhance my career and upgrade my skills without any formal education or courses. Therefore, it is a great way to keep oneself updated and relevant with the current world and technologies.
