Assessment task 1
Meeting with the client and their outcome
For the preparation of the meetings with the client the outcome of the network should be
analysed and the stakeholders should be involved for the development of the network
solution. The progress of the project should be documented according to the schedule
prepared for the development of the project and the goals of the organization should be meet
for the management of the potential.
Current infrastructure of the network
The current network solution should be prepared aligning the needs of the organization and
connecting all the 840 users to send and receive data packets in the network. The current
network is connected using a wired network and the different service that should be used for
the network is analysed for the configuration of the server. The network is developed for the
two floor building and an option for expansion should be prepared for the management of the
different operation of the organization. In the current network the printing, scanning, email
and the other internet service are shared with all the users connected in the network. Separate
servers are used for email, database, print and legacy servers. There is a need for expansion
of the current network and modifying the second floor for the management of the
administrative area for segregation of the academic operation. The ground floor and the first
floor is used for the vocational courses and the second floor is used for the expansion of the
network.

For the development of the new network solution the needs of the organization and the new
strategy that should be followed for improvement of the performance of the network is
analysed. The network is divided into two different channels for the staffs and the students
and different integrated service should be configured for the management of the traffic. The
growth of the organization should be aligned for the management of the scalability of the
network and the new technologies that can be applied for the development of the network
should be analysed for starting the development of the project.

Explanation of the diagram
The physical and the logical network diagram of the network is created for the management
of the network solution. The proposed network solution is an expansion of the current
network and the network design should be estimated for the management of the network

the placement of the network device and design the network according to the requirement of
the organization. For maintaining effective communication the network cabling plan is
created and a map of the existing diagram is evaluated for the preparation of the network
solution. A network topology is selected for the analysis of the logical space and gathering
information for installation of the network device in different areas of the network.

Background or context
The network solution is prepared for ALTEC which provides vocational training and higher
education course to the local and thee international students registered with the institute. The
institute have faced an expansion in the business and thus needs to upgrade the network for
meeting the current and the future needs of the organisation. The current network is designed
for the ground floor and the first floor bit it needs to be extended for the second floor for the
accommodation of the students and management of the academic operations. A meeting is
arranged with the clients for the confirmation of the specification and needs of the network.
Site requirement
The main requirement of the site is to connect the students and the staffs with the internet and
provide them different service such that the performance of the network can be improved.
There is also need to configure the router and the server with different service such that the
traffic generated in different location of the network can be managed efficiently. The

configuration of the router with ip telephony helps in increasing the efficiency of
communication between the users connected in the network. Moreover the servers should be
configured with VPN service for encrypting the communication channel with the remote user

communication channel should be used for the voice, video and the data packets such that
there is no collision in the network and the efficiency of thee network is maintained.
Tools and resources required
The architecture of the network should be created according to the floor plan of the building
and a list of the service that should be enabled for meeting the goals and objectives of the
organization should also be defined for the development of the network framework. The
network should be automated for management of the policy and maintaining the access of
entire network. The cost of the network should be reduced and the performance of the
network should be high such that threats in the network should be mitigated. The routers and
the switches should be configured and management of the network is important for
management of the performance of the network. The wireless network should be created for
connecting the wireless device of the user and the range of the coverage of the wireless
access point should be analysed for the deployment of the wireless device in the network. The
security of the network should be considered and a DMZ zone should be created for the
installation of the server and secure it from unauthorised agents.
Network management tools
There are different network management tools that should be used for monitoring the
consumption of the bandwidth and the flow of traffic in the network. The installation of the
intrusion detection system and intrusion detection system would help in identification of the
unauthorised access of the network resources and help the network administrator to secure
the network and the servers from external agents. The network management tools can also be
used for the identification of the open ports and the address of the data packets coming to the
destination address for increasing the reliability and security of the network. The use of the
network management tool helps in reduction of the effort of the network manager for the
improvement of the performance of the network. The switch ports can be mapped and a
scanning of the network can be done for the analysis of the network and security measures
can be applied for increasing the security of the network and configuring the network device
for the management of the network.
Implementation tasks
For the implementation of the different information about the network should be gathered and
documented. A logical and physical design of the network should be created for the
identification of the number of device and the location for the installation of the device in the
network. The list of the network device that are available and the device that are required for
the expansion of the current network should be created for the analysis of the budget of the
project. The skills and the efforts of the network manager that would be required for the
development of the network should be identified earlier for the reduction of the errors and
increasing the efficiency of the final solution.
Security requirements
The network solution should be developed such that the resources of the network should be
protected from the internal and the external agents. Different security mechanism such as
authentication of the user, encryption of the sensitive information can be applied for the

development of a secure network framework. Firewalls must be installed in the entry and exit
point and configured according to the business rules of the organization for securing the
access and application of communication security for the network. The workstations installed
in the network should be installed with antivirus software such that security breach can be
avoided with the virus and spyware programs. The roles and responsibility of the user should
be defined and security zones should be created for the controlling the network
administration and maintaining compliance of the device for protecting the management
information.
Security tools and methods for ongoing monitoring
There are different security tools that are essential for monitoring the current framework of
the network and protecting the information of the user for the management of the traffic
flowing between the different sources and the destination address. Different VLANs should
be created for the separation of the student and the staffs connected in the network and
awareness should be created among the user for the using the network. The network should
be designed for supporting the transfer of multimedia packets and correlate it for auditing the
evet information and supporting high level consolidation view regarding the threat and status
of the security of the network.
