In the respective article, the main theme which has been reflected in the article is
related to the fact that the different millennials in the Singaporean economy are inclined
towards the gig economy. The growing proportion of the entire labour force which includes
the young graduates are preferring to work in gig economy which are the freelance jobs or the
part time jobs. The gig economy has been able to create a positive impact and creating the
balance of the weak job market which is present in Singapore (Straits.com, 2020).
More than 167000 workers are considered to be the primary freelancers whose main
job was to work as agents, stallholders along with becoming private tutors. Moreover, the
growth in the entire gig economy has been showcased with the help of the statistics which has
been capable of showing us that there are more than 50% increase in number of the private
hire care registrants (Straits.com, 2020). More than 50600 people have applied for Private
Hire Care Registrants and due to the same, the gig economy is attracting more millennials
and young graduates as well.
Analysis of Appropriateness of Article
In the respective article, the approach is appropriate and adequate in nature as the gig
economy in Singapore economy as there is weak workforce in the respective economy. Due
to the respective fact, the freelancers have been receiving high level of opportunities for
generating high level of income and it has improved their progress in achieving the minimum
level of salary. As there is lack of employment in the Singaporean economy, the gig or the

freelancing jobs are providing high level of scope to the different young workers along with
millennials which are helping them in showcasing their skills.
From the instances of the companies that have been showcased in the article such as
Grab and Uber Singapore, it can be seen that more than 50% of the individuals are applying
for the vocational licences which helps them in improving their effectiveness in the services
which are received by them. According to the article, I totally agree to the same as the rise in
the gig economy has been making it easier for the people who take the work lives in their
own hands which helps them in providing freedom to perform their tasks in an accurate
manner. It is particularly considered to be attractive as well as lucrative for the skilled
employees such as the web developers or the cab drivers as it will be helpful for them in
leveraging their skills for gaining the maximum advantage in the market.
Brief Conclusion
From the analysis of the entire article, it can be concluded that the gig economy has
been capable of providing the different advantages such as higher level of flexibility, greater
independence in work performed along with payments which are provided are highly
effective. The gig economy is taking maximum space in the Singaporean economy and it is
continuing to rise in near term as the different start-ups or the new ventures in the new
business as well as companies are trying to manage the costs successfully. As the job market
and economy is weak, it is creating opportunities for the freelancing jobs to appoint the
different millennials as they are the ones who prefer to work in one domain for a less span of
time and it will be capable of achieving the growth of the company successfully.
Moreover, the instances of Uber and Grab Singapore have been capable of analyzing
the fact that working on different projects for multiple organizations in the simultaneous
manner will be explore the different skillsets of the different employees and it will be

generating high level of opportunities for workers as much as possible. In the current
scenario, the millennials are preferring to join different companies which are less risky and
they have the freedom in achieving the goals successfully. As gig economy is the free market
economy, there are different temporary positions present in the market of Singapore which
enhances the effectiveness of the services in an appropriate manner.

In the respective article, the main issue which has been highlighted is related to the
fact that gig economy is overtaking the entire employment opportunities of Singapore and
due to which it is creating negative impact on the permanent workforce of Singaporean
economy. In the current scenario, the different companies are preferring to offer the different
contractual offers to their clients which makes them feel that they are able to develop the
different skill sets which will be making them in performing the diverse works in an
appropriate manner (Straits.com, 2020).
From such scenario, it has been analyzed that the gig economy is profoundly
disrupting the actual deal between the businesses as well as workers in Singapore which
increases the economic insecurity along with worker related vulnerability. Moreover, the
authors have been capable of managing the aspect that gig economy is profoundly
undermining century of the workers protections. In the gig economy, there is no such security
provided to the different contractual employees who are performing the tasks which are
