1. Brief summary of case study person
Riley Thomas is a 22-year-old adult with skills in computer. He has developmental
disability and vision impairment although he does not feel disabled in any way because he has
been able to make good friends and pursue his interests in life. He has work experience as a
weekend greeter at the Aerospace Museum and as a worker at a day program agency based in
Calgary. Mr. Thomas enjoys surfing the internet and knowing about new things every day. He
has keen interest in learning about different cuisines and history. However, Mr. Thomas is not
very content with his present work because it consumes much of his personal life, as he has to
dedicate most of his time working due to shortage of staff. Mr. Thomas is a keen observer, an
extrovert and benevolent as he loves caring for people. He is a visionary and possesses amazing
skills in handling people. He aspires to become a computer support specialist where he could
communicate with people and learn about their difficulties.
2. Occupation areas suitable for Mr. Thomas
Based on the personal profile and career vision of Mr. Thomas, three occupational areas
have been identified as best suited for him. These include:
 Computer user support technician
The duties include providing numerous repair and maintenance services for personal
computers (PCs) and laptops, taking calls from PC or laptop users who experience technical
trouble. The qualifications required for this job range from a bachelor’s degree in IT to post
secondary classes or an associate’s degree in computer.

3.1 Summary of the calls conducted with each company:
The calls were made during the office hours to make sure that there was someone to
invest some time into answering the questions.
NTT Data Canada, Inc. – Leslie Gordon, who is the senior manager at Sierra System, a
unit under NTT Data picked up the call. She politely and patiently provided answers to all the
questions that were asked.
The company mainly provides cloud solutions that include cloud migration, streamlining
business processes and upgrade old infrastructure. The business is vast with branches in 50
countries and regions including Canada. It is headquartered at Tokyo. The Canada branch has
more than 500 IT professionals working at the different units. The standard salary range is from
$30,000 to $35,000. The company provides all the facilities for the disabled people to work
without any worry.
DP World Canada, Inc. - Mrs. Mendy Theodore was contacted, who is the unit manager
at DP. The company is relatively new and hence, not much information could be found apart
from that the company has a few branches in across Canada and is planning to expand. The
salary range provided is from 15,000 to $20,000. The company uses computer operator,
computer support personnel as some of the keywords for job advertisements.

Langara College – Liam Samuels picked up the call and provided details about the job.
The college is currently looking for a computer support assistant. Salary range is from $45, 000
to $52,000. More than 1000 employees are presently working at various posts in the college. The
college is looking for someone who has exceptional skill of handling all kinds of computer
issues. At present, the college is lacking in providing satisfactory services to the disabled people
and is looking to improve on this aspect.
HDN Impôts & Comptabilité – The senior manager of the company, Jacob Felix
provided details about the company. The company mostly provides accounting solutions to
business firms especially bookkeeping. The company is very new to the industry with its
inception in 2017. The salary starts from $30,000 and could go up to $50,000 depending on
experience of the recruit. The company is committed to providing a diverse workforce and in
light of that; it would provide better facilities and equal working environment for the disabled
people.
Goldcorp Inc. – The Company mostly deals in accounting and finance. With 14,094
employees working solely in Canada, the size of the company is big. While recruiting people, the
company mostly looks for experience and capability to handle difficult situations.
Ernst & Young Pvt. Ltd. – The Company has branches in over 150 countries and
provides business and accounting solutions to large and small firms. The primary responsibility
of an accounting technician is to assist the manager in the workflow organizations, support
organizational review and so on. It offers an annual salary of $700,000 to those with an
experience of over two years. The short-term employee outlook of the company involves
providing proper training to the new recruits and the long-term outlook includes assigning the

employees work at the motel. It provides training to staff members to work with disabled people.
The motel has a strong number of staff that comprises people with different disabilities. The
motel employs informal hiring technique to recruit people. The company provides training for
Specific Skills Take, changing and cancelling room reservations, registering arriving guests and
so on.
The case study person has great computer skills, is great at handling people, caring for
them, interested in researching new facts and information. Further, he has great enthusiasm for
trying and knowing about cuisines of different cultures. He uses assistive technology such as
text to speech software and Zoomtext to help with his reading or seeing things. He has prior
experience as weekend greeter and day program. All these indicate that the case study person is
suitable for most of the jobs especially the ones discussed in the above section.
4. Identifying best occupations and companies for Mr. Thomas
The occupational research revealed that Mr. Thomas would do great as a computer user
support, an accounting technician and a hotel and motel front-desk operator. After going through

most suitable because it has good provisions for people with disability.
The accounting technician job is suitable because it could be done without visiting the
office every day. Working at Ernst & Young Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Thomas would have enough time to
enjoy his personal life as well, which he could not do in his present job at the day program
agency.
The hotel and motel front-desk clerk is another suitable job because it involves
communication with people. Mr. Thomas is very good at it and hence, this job is quite suitable.
The Bon Air Motel is a great place to work at because it encourages training of employees to
interact with disabled people whether customers or colleagues and Mr. Thomas would feel
comfortable working there.
