Narrative (Short Story)
A Good Man is Hard to Find
“A good man is hard to find” is a Southern short story which describes the story by the incident
and this story is based on the six members of the family who are driving to Florida from Georgia.
The story crux is that they are wiped off by the escaped convict named the misfit.
Plot — A man called Bailey who was the head of Atlanta household prepared his family
to take them to the holiday to Florida. His mother had warned Bailey that a convict called The
Misfit had escaped from the prison and was heading towards Florida. So she suggests to take the
trip to East Tennessee rather than Florida but Bailey declined her suggestion (O’conner and
qureshi, 2018). Other than his mother, Bailey also had three main family members which were
his son, daughter and one infant. The next day, in the morning, all the members of the family
were ready to go for the holiday to Florida. Grandmother occupied the back seat in the car. She is
dressed finely, as she had the perception that if she is killed in an accident, she is recognized as
Southern lady. The family also had a cat as an animal with them.
While travelling, grandmother and the other family members were talking with each
other in which the grandmother was providing the past information about her life. After some
time, the family stops at the Barbeque to have lunch. On arriving there, the family finds that the
place is rundown. Red Sammy the owner of the Barbeque is scornful of his own wife but easily
communicates with the grandmother as he is being worried to be robbed by The Misfit (Delaney,
2020). Later that afternoon, the family continues the trip and in the middle of the road,
grandmother falsely remembered the plantation area and told Bailey to turn the car, lately they
realized that they were in the wilderness and the road was rocky with dirt all around. This
panicked the cat and it jumped into Bailey's lap resulting into dis-balancing the car. This incident
was seen by the three people among which one was The Misfit who was recognized by the
grandmother and the other two were also the culprits. Misfit saw the family and shot them to
death. All the family members were dead except grandmother. Then grandmother pleaded Misfit
to not kill her, but he did not listen to her and killed her wildly into the woods.
Characters — The characters are mentioned below -
The grandmother (the protagonist of the story) — Mother of Bailey.

The Misfit — He was the escaped convict who ran with two other criminals.
Bailey — The grandmother son who took all the family members to the holiday to Florida.
Red Sammy — The owner of the Barbeque who was also talking to the grandmother.
Hiram and Bobby Lee — The two convicts who escaped with The Misfit.
These are the main characteristics of the story playing their individual roles and making
the story move forward.
Description — The description of the story is that there is a family of six members in which the
cat is also included. They were making their trip to Florida from Georgia. During this point
which is included, a convict called The Misfit ran away from the prison along with his two
members of the gang. By being back on the story, it was identified that the family of six in which
there was Bailey, grandmother, three children and one cat who were taking their trip to Florida
decided to leave early in the morning (Kovács, 2019). But in their way, a mishap occurred, and
they were all shot dead by the victim The Misfit and gang. This story concluded that there is
different type of reality and vision which is observed by all the six characters of the story. They
play important roles in the story which depicts the vision and their perception towards leading a
life. This also initiated the concept of how the different characters perceived certain kind of life
and how they were leading their life by discussing their life and what changes have been
occurred over time in the past years as explained by grandmother while communicating with
their grandchildren and son.
The main concept of the story was that it was narrated in the manner which engaged the
viewers and listeners to stay intact with the end result happened with the six members of the
family. This engaged the listeners and their perception towards how a happy leading life changed
the circumstances of the members of the family. While narrating the story, I also observed that
the characters in the story were not bold and did not fight for their lives and were killed very
easily (Baranov, 2018). Therefore, its focus was on the thinking of how men perceive and lead
their life by staying true towards their life and others. It is therefore, said that a good man is
difficult to find. While narrating this story to the listeners, I also observed that they were very
elated by listening to the story and how it unfolded the different aspects and its parts to move the
story forward. This is the story which helps in initiating the concerns related to how interestingly
the story unfolded different parts which reflected through the characters of the story.

Descriptive
Below is the description of the setting which is described with the help of explaining a
scenario. This description also will describe the atmosphere with all intricate details and
information along with the movements in the environment happening. The description is written
below –
As the sun shines, its golden rays pierce through the canopies illuminating the turf below.
Moving forward in the scenario the ground which is wet with rainwater reflects the heavenly tint
of the sun. As leaves from the trees slowly dance downwards in a seemingly endless spiral, their
dance being part of one of nature’s characteristics is twisted and then are flowing in the air. And
along with this, the carelessness that stayed unwavering at the force of the wind whilst retaining
natures' innocence as it glided gracefully downwards from the hands of the mighty trees above.
As the trees waved farewell to their leaves they had a Stoic look at them as if they knew their
leaves would soon return. So when the tip toed downwards the grass below, they welcomed them
with open arms and gently caressed the greenery as soon as their descent ended. The grass
slowly becomes a patchwork masterpiece as leaves drifted downwards forming an outstanding
scene in the environment and welcome the air with the twists of magic about to happen in the
surroundings. This was captured in the bottle-green grass was filled with leaves who had reached
their end and have taken rest on the grassy beds below.
As this cycle took place a lone samurai stood basking in the golden rays of victory as his
armour glistened with the blood of fallen foes and comrades alike. The lone samurai stood firmly
in the sun's rays, his silhouette piercing through the mellow aura of the forest, his arm
outstretched in his hand, with a firmly clutched sword. As blood drops off it into the puddles
below and each drop contaminates the calm nature of the woods with violence and slaughter. By
this amazing view, it was observed that each bead of crimson blood that slowly dripped down the
blade of the sword representation of a life that was undeserving of death yet was destined for it.
Each splatter of blood of his armour and sword stained the honour of this one proud warrior,
each splatter of blood remaining as a mark of fate. When the man stood, he remained unshaken
by the stains of his past rather deciding to glare on into the future. As his eyes laid dormant each
pupil staring ominously into the unfocused beyond as his irises contrasted the smeared blood on
his face with a piercing blue. This was seen with his serrating stare shredding through the golden

beams of sun. As the Stoic figure remained unmoved the forest lovingly accepted him as the
trees whispered that he was welcomed. As they did this the rickety branches slowly moved
almost symbolizing their forgiving nature.
The movements were undergoing according to the nature's process and then slowly
wildlife appeared. A squirrel climbed curiously out of a tree, its coat ruffled by the passing
breeze as its luscious tail remained wrapped around the tree. This scene was undisturbed by the
stationary soldier. Moving forward, the forest was illuminated by the array of sunbeams
reflecting of the seamless surfaces of the puddles down below. This was observed by creating an
iridescent spectrum of colours ranging from the luscious greenery of the woods to the golden
beams of sunlight and the patchwork quilt of leaves flowers on the forest floor. Moving forward,
the humidity in the air creates a veil of moisture between the samurai and the woods before him,
guarding the forests' life from the blood drenched warrior.
With the help of this scenario, it is viewed that the scenario is depicting the environment
and how the writer is explaining it with all the processes which happens in the environment. This
scenario is based on how each part of the environment unfolds and this is analysing the
perception of the writer in detailed and descriptive manner. The poetry is explained with the
thoughts and feelings of the Samurai and how he is feeling towards the changes which are
observed by his battle which he has undertaken. There are also different scenes in the poetry
which are explained and this helped in understanding the concerns and relating the environment
changes with the personal thoughts and feelings which are depicted through this poetry
description.
In this manner the basis of the poetry is being explained which helped in narrating the
perspectives, thoughts and feelings of the writer with the help of the scenes. The poetry is
explained and described with the movements happening in the environment and the atmosphere.
This helped in providing the details through which the whole scenario is explained in descriptive
manner. The major points of consideration within the poetry is that the writer is embracing each
and every movement and how the Samurai is forwarding the poetry scenario. The role of
Samurai is also explained in this poetry and this helped in providing the details regarding the
different perspectives which are being noticed in the description of the poetry.
This is how the description of the poetry is performed effectively and in appropriate
manner with all the details and information within it.
