Introduction
From the childhood itself, everyone have a desire of becoming something and getting certain type of job
in their future. But any position or job can be obtained without knowing ourselves in terms of skills and
knowledge possessed and where one is lacking at. And to get these skills learnt and jobs obtained
accordingly, one must have set goals to reach the same.
Career development is a concept related to both working life and personal life. With regards to
working life, this concept is meaningful as no one aims to be on the same job or position throughout their
lives, and in the absence of any plan for career development, no improvement in an individual can be
possible in order to get promoted on higher position or acquire better job (Bridgstock, 2019). In the
context of personal life, career development have much importance to meet our dreamt goals and making
our families happy by providing them with comfortable life. The present report will discuss upon the
importance of career development in getting employed and reflection will be given on how self-
assessment test that have been undertaken has proved to be helpful in career development and also at
workplace.
Career development and employability
Personal branding: It is an intentional and conscious efforts to establish and influence the opinions and
views of general public about an individual in order to position them as a unique personality through the
elevation of their individual credibility, and helps in making different from the competition to achieve the
ultimate goal of advancing career development. It is referred to a unique combination of knowledge, skills
expertise and experience that contributed towards making an individual different from others and create a
base for recognition of who are you (McKenzie, Coldwell-Neilson and Palmer, 2018). It is an individual
presentation in front of the world.
In the context of career development, the role of personal branding is such where an individual can stand
out from rest of the competition and thus helps in building trust among employers and prospective clients.
Just like a product brand is marketed to create more demand from customers, the individual skills and
experience can also be marketed through creating a personal brand by highlighting their possession of
skills, experience and knowledge among the potential employers to create a demand for their
employment. Thus, personal branding allows for marketing talents and career in the form of a brand to
make a better perception in the minds of other people (Smith and et.al.,2018). The strategies towards
creating personal brand are knowing and testing oneself before externally presenting talents and career,
then deciding upon who the target audience are among whom one wants to create their image and
impression and then finally go for establishing their presence in the market.
Curriculum Vitae or CV: It is a document created for professional purposes which demonstrates an
individual’s skills, work history, experience, education and achievements in a summarized way that is
