INTRODUCTION
Breast cancer is considered as a cancer whose development starts from the breast tissue
(Schousboe and et.al., 2011). There can be various signs and symptoms through which it can be
analysed that a woman is suffering from breast cancer and the symptoms can include some
change in the shape of the breast, lump in the breast, leaking fluid from nipple etc. There are
various factors that can act responsible for causing breast cancer and these can be classified as
obesity, intake of alcohol, excess smoking, substance abuse, lack of physical activities and
exercises and it can be genetic as well. The proposal is about understanding the impact of breast
cancer in woman aged 60 and their families.
Rationale
To understand the impact of breast cancer is very essential as it is vital to recognise the
factors that can lead to it. It is necessary because after analysing the factors, one can even try to
control it. Although there has not been proven any way for preventing it but various methods and
techniques can be used to lower the risk or provide a sort of relaxation to a few of its symptoms.
So, it is very important to understand the impact of breast cancer on woman aged 60 and also,
what it impacts on their families to deal with the situation.

Concept and treatment of breast cancer
Breast cancer is considered as one of those diseases which is a reason for death in UK.
Various symptoms of it includes acute pain in the breast or in armpits, inverted or leaky nipple,
uneven change in the shape or size of the breast etc. So, a woman should ensure that after
observing any of such, immediate medication and advice is necessary. Breast cancer is staged
from stage 0 to 4 and as the stage increases, the risk for more damaging also increases. It is
because slowly, the tumour starts spreading to nearby nodes and till the 4th stage, it starts
spreading to the bones, brain, liver etc. This cancer starts from the milk ducts that are developed
in a woman's body after the puberty and after those milk ducts, it starts spreading to other parts
of the body (DeSantis and et.al., 2014). Various treatments can be provided to one suffering from
breast cancer such as there are surgeries to remove the tumour from inside, chemotherapy,
radiation therapy etc. But no treatment can guarantee a complete removal of the cancer, but can
be done for the sake of saving someone's life.

Breast cancer can actually make the situation very stressful for a woman as it can affect
very badly on the daily life activities of a person. Despite of the other, it can affect the brain of a
person in a way that the person cannot feel, able to think and decide properly because an
estimation of a person suffering from breast cancer is approximately about 5 years. It can affect
the women emotionally as well (Binkley and et.al., 2012). This also gives equal stress levels to
the family members of the sufferer. In such situations, it has been observed that some family
members cooperate but some remains upset only which can affect badly on the patient because in
such situation, family support and cooperation can help the person a lot.
Research Methodology
Research can be considered as a systematic investigation for collection of data and
information. Research methodology is termed as an analysis of all the methods that are being
applied in the study. It helps in providing a clear and systematic way of representing the
evaluation in the whole research. The methodologies can be classified as quantitative as well as
qualitative. There are various aspects of research methodology which are discussed as under:

Research approach
Research approach is considered as methods or ways that helps in expanding the idea and
concept to go for a deep and efficient analysis (Morrow, Waters and Morris, 2011). Research
approach can be classified as either inductive or deductive. Inductive approach is concerned with
evolution of new theories while deductive approach is the one aimed at testing and related
functions. In this research, the researcher will make use of deductive as it will also help in
checking the validity of other strategies and techniques.
Research strategy
A research strategy is classified as a step by step plan that can help in the research at any
time for providing some sort of directions and ways in case of complex and complicated
situations. Research strategy can be categorised in two types, either qualitative or quantitative. In
this research, the qualitative one can be used by the researcher because the data from surveys and
interviews can be more helpful for analysing the impact of breast cancer on women and how the
family members take it.
Research design
Research design is considered as an overall strategy that helps in determining and
integrating various components in a very efficient way so that it can be able to analyse the
problems and issues of the research easily and thus, a proper way can be used for overcoming it
(Anderson and et.al, 2011). There are various types of research designs such as descriptive,
experimental, semi experimental, co-relational etc. In this research, the researcher will make use
of the descriptive one because it deals with naturalistic observation, so it can help better in
analysing the impact of breast cancer on women and their families as well.
Data Collection
Data Collection is considered as a process of gathering all the data and information for
the research. It can be done by either primary or by secondary means (Canadian Task Force on
Preventive Health Care, 2011). The primary data is the data that has been collected for the first
time and different sources of it includes surveys, interviews, focused groups etc. Secondary data
is the data that has already been collected by some external body and different sources of it
includes online, books, journals etc. So, in this research, the researcher will make use of the
primary research as for analysing the impact of breast cancer, data from surveys and interviews

can help because in secondary data, there may be possibility that the data on the books and
online can be old and may not act efficient for the research.
Sampling
Sampling is considered as a process in which a few samples are being taken from a large
population. Sampling can be categorised in a few types such as simple random sampling (SRS),
cluster sampling, stratified sampling, systematic sampling etc. In this research, the researcher
will make use of the simple random sampling because it will help more in analysing the actual
impact of breast cancer in women aged 60 and their families as well.

It can be concluded that breast cancer has been classified as one of the reasons for
causing deaths in UK and there are various signs and symptoms from the daily life that can lead
to breast cancer such as intake of alcohol, smoking etc. Although there are very few percent
chances that the person can live up to five years after suffering from breast cancer, there are few
treatments that can help in giving a sort of relief from some of its symptoms such as radiation
therapy, chemotherapy etc. Various research methods have also been used properly for having an
efficient collection of information for analysing the impact of breast cancer on the women of age
60 or above and also on their families.
