Impact of Brexit on healthcare
The Brexit have known to produce a challenge for the social care and health provision
in United Kingdom which are mainly concerned on the financial support which are available
for funding social and health care within the post Brexit economy. In the year 2016, the
United Kingdom have voted for leaving the European Union which has been termed as
Brexit. Huge amount of demographic changes posed challenge to social care and health care
problems. There was a huge short of physiotherapist with significant pressures on other
professions. The government after that confirmed that EU nationals who have graduated from
UK can stay back and practice. The workforce in UK was under huge pressure for providing
service to the ageing population (Baker, Ali and Thrasher 2016). The increasing inflation
with the lower value of pound because of the referendum will result in squeeze on the
funding for National Health Service which in turn will lead to workforce crisis. The National
Health Service of England is already facing a shortage of more than 100,000 staffs including
large number of doctors, nurses, care staff and allied health professionals resulting to large
number of vacancies in adult social care. The reason behind this is that the United Kingdom
had a large number of highly qualified doctors working in other European country. Even
before the UK decided to leave the European Union in 2016, there were concerns about the
ability of UK to adequately staff its essential health and social care services. These challenges
however have grown with the retirement of the existing staffs. Many in the social care sectors
along with the health care sectors have been struggling to recruit staff while encountering
large amount regulations on immigration while employing them (Hadfield and Hammond
2018). It can be said that Brexit had made UK appear to be less attractive option to health
workers from the EU. From the time UK voted for leaving EU, a large reduction in EU
nationals applying for the nursing have been noticed. The community health services are also
