Impact of Climate Change on Island Tourism Destination

This research proposal focuses on evaluating the impact of climate change on island tourism destination, specifically the case study of Isle Portland in England, UK. The aim is to understand the impact, evaluate the impacts, identify the reasons for climate changes, and suggest solutions to make the destination more attractive for tourists. The research will use qualitative research methods, inductive research approach, positivism research philosophy, random sampling, and both primary and secondary data collection methods. Thematic data analysis will be used to interpret the collected data.

 To identify the reasons of climate changes due to this Portland tourism destination
affected.
 To suggest several solutions to resolve identified issues so that Portland tourism

destination can make more attractive for the tourists.
A3 - POTENTIAL METHODOLOGY

data?
 Research Type: It is process of searching, interpreting and analysing new thoughts and
ideas in effective manner. Qualitative and quantitative are two types of research which
helps in gathering data effectively (Byrd, 2020). Qualitative research method is quite
simpler method that helps in maintaining quality of data while gathering information
related research topic. On the other hand, quantitative method provides information into
mathematical figure which can be interpreted only by highly skilled and talented scholars.
In this research proposal will use qualitative research method because this research
assignment requires high level of quality then logical conclusion can be portrayed.
 Research Approach: It is another effective method that also supports in research project to
collect information effectively. There are two types research approaches such as inductive
and deductive. Inductive research approach is done on human insights which is observed
by the qualitative method. While deductive research approach is done on quantitative
method. This research type is qualitative type so inductive research approach will use in
this research assignment (Lune and Berg, 2017).
 Research Philosophy: It is one of the most effective method because it helps in enhancing
potential of data collection. There are two type research philosophies i.e. positivism and
interpretivism. Interpretivism method is philosophy supports in understanding the reality of
the business environment on the other hand, positivism method gives realistic facts that are
already available in the business market. However, positivism research Philosophy will use
for this research proposal because it supports in creating authentic and realistic theories.
 Sampling: Random sampling method will use for this research because it allows scholar to
select people randomly without any discrimination. For example, 100 tourists will select as
a sample population for this research who will share their views through the questionnaires
over the proposed research topic.

 Data Collection: It is another effective method that supports in collecting authentic data
related to research topic. There are two methods of data collections such as primary and
secondary. Primary data collection method supports in colleting data from interview
session while secondary data collection method supports in gathering data from available
resources i.e. newspapers, published articles and research papers, social media and internet.
In this research proposal will use both data collection methods primary and secondary
because both will support in authentic information from different resources.
 Data Analysis: When the data is gathered from the primary and secondary data collection
methods then that is interpreted by the thematic analysis method. It is a one of the most
effective method of data analysis. It supports in distributing overall collected data into
different themes which become easier for the scholar to interpret them effectively and draw
a logical conclusion of the research. So, thematic data analysis method will use for this
research because it helps to prepare questionnaires in effective manner.

“Impact of climate change on Island of tourism destination” is a research topic that is chosen for
the research because it has become big issue for all tourism companies and government as well.
the reason behind is that whenever climate change then it directly affects all islands by rising
temperature, sea levels etc are threatening to access the land in the coastal areas (Seetanah and
Fauzel, 2019). Due to climate change, most of the tourism companies unable to lur tourists to visit
destination and tourists also avoid to visit such islands whereas climate change is highly prevalent.
Due to this, most of the tourism destination companies faces economical risks and it also affects
GDP rate of the country as well (Santos-LacuevaClavé and Saladié, 2017). So, it has become
hottest topic worldwide and has wide scope in UK’s market because there are various beautiful
islands through which tourism companies can attract local and national tourists to visit the Islands
and takes hospitality and transportation services from the hotels which ultimately enhance GDP
rate of United states. But past few years, UK is facing climate change issue due to this islands
charming is decreasing gradually tourism destinations companies unable to attract other countries
tourists to come and visit the place and have a good experience of tourism destination. There are
various reasons of climate change such as burning fuels, cutting down rainforests and farming
livestock and high amount of greenhouse gases are naturally occurring in the atmosphere which is
also one of the major reasons of greenhouse effect and global warming (Han, Lee and Hwang,
2016). Apart from this, climate change is injuriously affected islands in term of rising maximum
temperature or rising minimum temperature, rising sea levels, shrinking glaciers and higher ocean
temperature. Due to this UK can come at high risk of losing coastal arable land to degradation and
salinification, if UK’s government does not take any effective initiatives to resolve this current
issue. So, it is important for the UK’s government to take effective actions to resolve the climate
change. This research has not only wide scope in UK but it has huge scope in other countries
which are rich for islands. In this research assignment will discuss over impact of climate change
on Island tourism destination. then it will highlight actual reasons of climate change on the Island
with the support of live example of island i.e. Isle of Portland which is established in England,
UK. it is one of the most attractive and thrilling tourism destination. It is also famous as hub of
thrilling activities i.e. diving, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling and diving, and also famous as

limed tied beauty. In this research will highlight impact of climate change on Isle Portland, UK
through which tourism destination companies can aware about issues which they can face during
climate change and they can develop some creative solutions to deal with the issues themselves.
However, in this research will provide suggestions as well to deal with identified issues and
enhance attractiveness of Island. Thus, this research assignment will definitely prove supportive in
current and future scenario perspective. To collect effective data about the proposed research
topics will use literature review approach. This systematic review will record different
perspectives of different authors who have sated in their online published research articles and
books. This research project will help all tourism companies to take preparatory initiatives in their
tourism destination services and supports UK’s government to comply all legislation which have
imposed to resolve climate change issues.
