Impact of Covid-1
Over the past year, Malaysia has seen a new outbreak that has killed many lives. With
the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, everyone's life is a mess. They can't live as
usual and go wherever they want. But as the Malaysian government relaxes its Action
control orders (MCO) to more relaxed conditional control orders (CMCO), most
businesses are allowed to operate under standard operating procedures (Sops) to make
a living, and commuters are returning to their daily commutes. As long as the world
does not have a cure or vaccine for COVID-19, they must adapt to the "new normal",
a new way of life, a new way of working, a new way of interacting. As we can see
under these current circumstances, people have to live in this "new normal" for a long
time. Many consumers are affected by COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic and
confinement and social alienation regulations have disrupted consumer buying and
shopping habits.
Now, consumers are forming new habits. For example, consumers can't go to the
physical store, so they go online. Consumers may revert to buying products and
services, but new rules and procedures may change them. Most of the consumers have
changed their shopping behavior because of COVID-19. The most commonly cited
effect on shopping behavior is a shortage of products. The actions of consumers point
to a new, albeit temporary, normalcy in which we see consumers no longer engaging
in unnecessary activities and purchases. When consumers buy their products will they
will become more cautious and try to practice social distance. In the past two weeks,
consumers have begun to worry about crowding. Consumers were 33 percent less
likely to go to wholesalers and 35 percent less likely to go to large retailers. In the
past month, 13 percent placed an online home delivery order, saying it was the first
time they had done so or the first time in the past six months. About a third of the
click-collection users are new users. Retailers will continue to prioritize their online
stores and click-collect products that are clearly attractive in this society. New habits
will also emerge as technology improves, demographics change and consumers have
learned to cope with innovative ways of blurring the lines between work, leisure, and
education.

In today's society, they have to comply with the government SOP, because there are a
lot of environmental incidents that can be canceled if they don't comply, and one of
them is marriage registration. Many people had already chosen a date to register, but
the outbreak suddenly spread to so many places that the government announced it
would stop registering marriages, so everyone's registration date was delayed and
catering was banned. In the other hand, they need to make an appointment to settle up
their matters and that appointment needs to take about 3 days to process, that had
become trouble for some citizen. Especially Citizens need to queue up in long lines
with practicing SOP under a very hot situation and waiting for their turn. This is
inconvenient to some certain group of people. Let me cite some examples, a certain
group of people is included pregnant women, elder people, children, and people who
are prone to heatstroke. As they get very hot when they queue and when they get into
the office or someplace that with air conditioning it will cause some people with a low
immune system to get sick easily.
In addition, society is in a very bad situation where many companies can't afford to
pay their employees and even the companies are barely able to survive. A new
phenomenon that we can see in Malaysia is most of the company had cut off their
employee's monthly salary. For example, if the monthly sales of the company did not
reach RM100 000, the salary of all staff of the company will be cut off 30%. It’s
really a worse situation for those office workers who especially fresh graduate. This is
due to the cut-off salary, they as a Malaysian they need to pay also for the EPF and
SOCSO. Hence, the salary remains possibly not more than RM1000. So that had
caused many people are not able to make a saving in this panic period. As we know
that the company is not just aiming to cut off its budget but also the company's
purpose to ensure their company can retain survive in such a worse economic
recession situation. So it actually not just stress for workers but also the owner of the
company. From the newspaper or social media app, we can see the news report or
article that some of the company owners commit suicide due to not able to pay the
debt of their company, and major reasons are due to economic issues.
Now, many Malaysian citizens prefer to work in Singapore because of its high
exchange rate. We can say that some of the Malaysian citizens willing to paid the
quarantine fees to the Singapore government to start their job in Singapore. While at

the same time many Malaysian citizens are unable back to Malaysia because of the
outbreak and they need to spend more money than before. This is because, for some
people who made a round trip daily before the outbreak, they need to spend more for
their rental, food, and also transportation. In addition to the cost, if they want to return
back Malaysia, they must be quarantined for two weeks before they can be released to
ensure that they are not infected with the epidemic and the cost of the quarantine fee
is RM2100 not included RM150 for the SWAB test. But for those who apply to return
back with PCA, they just need to be quarantined for 7 days but still need to pay for
the fees. Hence that the reason why the Malaysian works in Singapore not willing to
return back to Malaysia. In addition, if this epidemic continues to spread throughout
the world, many societies will become very poor. Because if the company goes out of
business then those employees lose their jobs and they have a big problem with their
expenses.
The Covid-19 had also made a great impact on technology all over the world. With
the advent of breakthrough technology, they have broken old habits. The most
important technological breakthroughs of recent years have been in smartphones and
computers. With the increasing maturity of mobile phone technology and the
continuous progress of computer technology, people have been inseparable from these
technologies. As popularity surges, technology can help many entrepreneurs stay in
business, while online technologies such as Taobao Shopee can temporarily solve
consumers' buying problems. Of course, maybe half are women who don't go out for
long periods of time, or men who stay at home and shop online. So let us focus on the
impact of Covid-19 on Malaysia technologies. So the common application that we can
saw is Shoppe, Lazada, Taobao, and otherwise. That was before the present of Covid-
19. Once when the government started the MCO(Movement Control Oder) I just
realized that We Chat as a chatting app had also become a business platform. Some of
the sellers had made a mini-programs on We Chat that a place for their consumer to
make an order. That was really surprising to me because the mini-program we usually
saw is just a game. Other sellers also create a group and share their QR code via
Facebook and let the consumer who interests to join the group chat. In the group chat,
they update what they sold day by day. Hence if consumers want to make an order,
they just need to type and send it in the group chat. It's also beneficial to the seller
because they no need worried that they will miss the order and they also save the time

to record all the orders one by one. By this Covid-19 we also can saw that the users
for technology are no more limited to young people. In fact, there are may elder
people start to learn how to use and work with these technological gadgets. From the
social media application, we can notice that there are more and more elder people
start selling the service or goods via some platform as majorly Facebook. The had
also learned how to sold their product through live streams. Besides from that that the
most obvious is the progress for an e-wallet. Although before the present of Covid-19
the government had encouraged the citizen to use e-wallet in daily life but most
people prefer to pay in cash. But with the presence of Covid-19, more and more
people starting using an e-wallet to avoid contact. Not only for consumers, but it is
also for the seller for example in the MCO period MacDonald did not receive Cash
On Delivery(COD), they had forced their consumer to paid by e-wallet or online
transfer. Besides that, we can also saw that in some big cities as Kuala Lumpur their
patrol station had provided the pay wave machine that was really nakedness for the
impact on technology.
Of course, there are pros and cons to the impact on technologies. There are many
people that like to spread rumors on social media. For example the report of the
Covid-19 cases, they make a fake report with embezzling other newspaper company
watermark. There are also some people who like to snap the video or voice message
with some caption and information that was incorrect or inappropriate and post it on
Facebook. Hence it had caused the information on Facebook had already confused the
citizen and sometimes it makes the citizens panic with those fake information. By this
Covid-19 we can also saw that more and more fraud cases which are the seller
received the money from the buyer and did not send the product that their consumer
had purchase with excuses. Some of the sellers even use fake accounts to cheat the
other's money and did not reply once they get the money. Those are the people who
want to earn money in illegal ways. The most worse situation that I had noticed in this
Covid-19 period is the selling of the mask. At the beginning of Covid-19, there are
many sellers who sell the mask with high and high prices and the price of one box of
the mask even goes to RM80. There also had the cheap one but due to purchase from
the online consumers cannot ensure the quality of the mask that they purchase. Hence
at the beginning of the Covid-19, there are also many fraud cases related to mask.

Next, we will go to talk about how this COVID-19 is affecting the market and causing
a lot of bad business. Marketers' first task was to figure out how to maintain their
products in this market and maintain their sales volume. One of them is that they can
use advertisements to maintain their products. For example, advertisements put some
reminders for consumers to wear a face mask when going out, keep a distance, and
carry hand sanitizes for easy use after touching or using the toilet. And if the
consumers who think this marketer is nice not only to sell the product but also to care
about the consumer then the consumer will be interested in their product. In addition,
marketers also promote their products through digital marketing, because digital
marketing will not be affected by the epidemic, but the sales will be better. Because of
the epidemic, many people would stay at home and watch TV on the phone.
Naturally, digital marketing has become an indispensable part. Digital marketing
includes Facebook, WhatApps, Instagram, and TV. They use these digital marketing
tools to disseminate their latest advertising to let more people know that their products
are being promoted on the platform and to alert consumers to safety measures.
Besides that, some of the most obvious that we can saw the Covid-19 affect the
market is the demand for masks, sanitizer spray, bread, and others. This is because as
we had seen at the beginning of the Covid-19 the demand of consumers for the goods
that I mention above was rise rapidly and even cause most of it out of stock in whole
Malaysia. Consumers need to grab when the stock available and the price also had
been increased due to the high demand. We also can notice that before MCO there are
many people especially housewives went to the shopping mall and buy a lot of things
like rice, meat, and canned food to store in the house. That had caused a shortage of
some product and make a mess and trouble in the market. The producer needs to
speed up the production process to fulfill the demand of their consumers. Its also a
period that citizen hard to get bread from the grocery and supermarket, that was due to
the market demand.
In conclusion, we can see that people's habits have changed because of this epidemic.
Let's start with the consumer.They have no choice but to stay at home, watch TV,
press the phone and buy daily necessities through the platform. The second change is
technology. And because of this epidemic they couldn't live without their phones or
their televisions because they needed to be kept up to date with the latest news about
this epidemic and within a few months the cell phone sales had broken through.In

addition, salespeople have changed the way they get out of school.In order for
consumers to continue to consume their products, they use the platform, the
advertisement to advertise and it contains some warnings to consumers to take safety
measures. Finally, society.Because this epidemic society has to keep a distance, many
places have restrictions, people have to queue up wherever they go, and they have to
follow SOP. Otherwise, they will be fined. For consumers, even if they go out for
dinner with 3 or 4 friends, they have to sit separately, so they feel it is very
inconvenient to chat with them, so they don't go out.

Above is the advertisement that I have chosen is HL Marigold. Marigold HL milk has

advertisement mainly is to attract kids to buy. Protein is essential for growing children
because it is one of the cornerstones of their development. Marigold HL milk is also

contains vitamins K and D to help calcium absorption and increase bone strength.
Milk, this wonderful and nutritious delicious source, is what we mammals use to feed
our babies until they are old enough to eat a wide variety of foods. Many animals can
provide us with milk, but milk is the most readily available and widely consumed
milk, and it is a healthy supplement for both children and adults. In this design i have
draw one couple of cow at picnic and they are have a lot of HL Marigold milk which
include many different type of taste, so when the kid saw this advertisement they will
know this milk is from cow. When they saw this advertisement where the cow is
kicking a ball and dancing, they will want to be able to do as much physical exercise
as the cow. So, they will ask parent to bought for them. The advertisement actually
want to tell children when they drink HL milk they will get strong bones for better
movement. Compare to the figure 1, my design is more attract for children because
now a day many children are like to drink soda, the water that's not healthy for them.
