Media has been functioned as one of the most crucial public sources for criminal
information (Roberts 2018). It has increased dependence on media as people can access any
update or news and the media also cover news from a regional or local level. However, the
media has a decent impact, as well as an adverse effect on the Criminal Justice System in the
territory of Australia. This paper has discussed the impact of media on the system of criminal
justice.
Such commercial pressure determines the contemporary treatment of media on violence
and crime. The result of media coverage has engaged in recreation to reshape the opinion of the
public, as well as the policy of criminal justice (Palmer, Lint and Dalton 2017). However, it can
be said that the media is not a mirror of criminal justice, but it deals with the reflection of several
events happened in this society.
The nature, as well as the extent of criminal reporting, has enlarged the size of any issue
and public has been left the alarm regarding such public order, as well as safety of public. It has
served such information of crimes in an exceptional provocative agent, which can be affected in
such a way that people may be influenced in crime. However, this report of crimes may be
informed for such crime and can be prevented in a better way.
The coverage of media in the criminal act has produced an emotional response in the
viewer as fear of crime and its punishment (Ceccato and Bamzar 2016). However, it may be
affected as a catalyst of offence in the mind of the public in society, as well as the Criminal
Justice System.
