1IMPACT OF PALLIATIVE CARE ON NURSING DISCIPLINE Introduction: My poster demonstrates the impact of palliative care on the nursing profession. It focuses on the issue of palliative care and how it impacts the academic discipline. Discussion: Palliative care is a specialized treatment given to the people who suffer from serious illness (Wilson et al. 2016). This kind of the treatment is targeted to cure pain and provide relief from symptoms arising from the serious illness. The goal of this treatment is easing pain for the patient as well as for the family(PMC 2019). The topic discusses about the palliative care and its impact in the nursing profession. It is to look into the reasons for including palliative care within the academic discipline of nursing (Lynch 2019). This focuses on the importance and the impact of the palliative care in the emotional, physical and spiritual development of the nurses as well as the patients (YouTube 2019). This also looks in to the rationale behind studying the topic under the nursing discipline (National Institute on Aging 2019). The impact of the palliative care on the nursing profession helps to improve the competencies of the nurses and develop their skills in palliative care; this also helps in translating this knowledge into practice when it comes to applying the theoretical knowledge into practice (Wilson et al. 2016). Maximum number of death occurs due to lack of proper care and nurses are an important factor who plays the most roles here. The palliative care is included in the discipline for the undergraduate student of the nursing profession who are given knowledge about supporting the terminally ill patients and their families. This provides an opportunity to the nurses for learn and experience diverse situations.Nurses act as the teachers for the patients;

Palliative care helps the nurses to develop emotional support for their patients. This also helps them to develop better communication skill that is required to develop in order to have better communication with the patients (Kelley et al. 2015). It develops the humane nature of the health practitioners especially the nurses towards the patients which serious illness. The impact of palliative care in the nursing discipline is mainly to develop the undergraduate nurses towards providing support to the patients which are at the end of their life(Dumanovsky et al. 2016).The goal of this topic is to make the nurses aware of their expected role in the future situation of patients with serious illness. This helps to build a team of palliative care between the nurses and the doctor in giving treatment to the patients as well as the family. Moreover, this prepares the nurses to meet future challenges in dealing with diverse situations. For example, offering palliative care for the cancer patients (National Cancer Institute 2019). The impact of palliative care on the discipline of nursing is reflected in developing the art and science of care for these patients who are dying and their families are also in need of care (Kelley et al. 2015). Moreover, nursing and palliative care have certain common goals and values. The goal of palliative care is to reduce the pain and suffering of the patients in the best possible way which can only be performed by the nurses in the health sectors. Through proper diagnosis and treatment of the illness, nurses help to understand the complex situation of physical, social, emotional and the spiritual aspect of one human being. For nurses, it is very important to understand these complex human responses of the patiences.As a palliative nurse , he or she gets a chance to develop the patient-nurse relationship which is required to shape the future care and the management of the future treatment of the patients.
3IMPACT OF PALLIATIVE CARE ON NURSING DISCIPLINE I choose to make poster because it is a good way to explain my topic because it is a vast topic which requires graphical as well as written representation. This is important to aware people about the issue of palliative care as it is one of the major parts of the nursing profession. It is also important to make of the poster of the same because it is easy to understand the topic in visual form. Hence, the importance of palliative care is represented in both formats. Conclusion: My poster demonstrates the impact of palliative care on the nursing discipline, which is developing competencies of the nurses, effective skill management, translating knowledge into practice, better communication skills, improving nurse-patient relationship and developing the humane nature of the nursing profession.
