Enterprise Communications – Practical Activity
Minimum
Competency
A satisfactory assessment.
Practical Exercise 9
Aim
In Prac 8 you modelled a simple VoIP and Communications Collaborative system. We are
going to replicate Prac 8, but replacing OfficeSIP with a comprehensive collaborative
communications system– Microsoft Skype for Business 2015 / Lync 2013
Students must complete Activities 1 to 5 individually. For Activity 6 students may need to
join up with one other student.
This is a research and development activity. It will require careful consideration and
planning. This will be considerably more complex than installing OfficeSIP.
Note that parts of this exercise should be completed on the base OS’s
Other Server Parts should be completed using Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs
Knowledge Questions
Answer the following Questions before start the Practical.
o Describe how you could install the OS using following medias?
o DC, DVD, USB, Boot Disk, Network and Script, Deployment Service
o What is a Boot Process and how would you diagnose a boot failure?
o How would you increase the system performance?
o List three system performance monitoring tools and configure one of them?
o What is system compatibility issues?
o Explain what is high availability? And how would you implement to mail
servers?
o What is user authentication? Explain with date security.
o Explain a best practice backup procedure?
o What is error and event logging? How does it help to troubleshoot the issues?
o Explain storage options, including file system and disk partition?

Assignment On Implement And Test Enterprise Communication Solutions_2

Enterprise Communications – Practical Activity
In this activity we will view and revise materials that may assist in the installation of a
Microsoft Skype for Busyness 2015/ Lync Server 2013 system
Review the following video:
o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNIm5YNIY6Q
Review the following tutorials:
o https://judeperera.wordpress.com/2015/04/21/step-by-step-guide-for-
installing-skype-for-business-server-2015/
o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RurS_Gy93BY
Note that these tutorials will be used as the base for you to install and configure a Skype
Server and Client. You will need to adapt this video tutorial to your “local” conditions.
Tasks done
Reviewed and studied.
Activity 2 ( Planning collaboration tools installation, server roles , namespace)
In this activity we will prepare our basic environ for installing Skype for Business 2015.
Note that we will also be using our base OS as part of the environment. We will be
utilising the “shared” 192.168.x.1 ip address with the NAT interface.
Reconfigure the NAT interface to use this assigned subnet address.
Set up two fresh, fully updated Windows Server 2016 R2 installations on static
IP under NAT Networking environs.
o Copied, cloned or sysprepped VM’s will not work with this exercise.
o Your member server that is to become the host for Skype should have at
least 65Gb of free space.
One server to be configured as a Domain Controller
o Name: win2k12dc
o IP Address: 192.168.x.10 Where x is your group’s assigned subnet
o IP Domain Name setting: studentnbr.edu.au
o Domain: studentnbr.edu.au
o Configure this machine to access the internet through the NAT gateway.
Your second server is to be configured as a “Member Server” (i.e. joined to the
domain).
o Name: win2k12skype set an alias “Skype” to this in your DNS
o IP Address: 192.168.x.30 Where x is your group’s assigned subnet
o IP Domain Name setting: studentnbr.edu.au
o Domain: studentnbr.edu.au
Increase the Hard Disk size of your “win2k12skype” server to at least 65Gb if it is not
that size already.
o Shut down the VM
o In the Virtual Machine Settings, increase the size of the virtual HDD to 65Gb.
o Restart the VM.

Enterprise Communications – Practical Activity
o Using the “Server Manager” / “Storage” / “Disk Manager” console expland the
size of your partition to fill the newly allocated blank space (up to 65Gb).
Note the IP address of the NAT interface on your base machine.
o i.e. 192.168.x.1
o Drop any firewalls so that the host machine for VMware can be considered
part of the NAT network.
Set each machine (virtual or otherwise) to point to the domain controller’s DNS
o The Server will have a 127.0.0.1 DNS entry.
o The Member server will have a 192.168.x.1 entry.
o The Host OS NAT interface (on 192.168.x.1) should also be configured to
access the 192.168.x.10 DNS without losing NAT connectivity.
Note that this may be a hard task to achieve. It may be easier to
implement RRAS in the long run !
Set up the DNS as per Pracs 1 and 2 (MX records, aliases etc).
Document the steps that you followed to obtain and install your tool in your Journal
Tasks done
Implemented as explained above.
Copy skype for business installation files.
In this activity we will obtain the resources that we will need to deploy Skype Server 2015.
This also involves deploying the Skype 2015 Client.
Download the “trial” copy of Skype Server 2015 to your “win2k12Skype” member
server.
Deploy 7Zip onto your Member Server
Use 7Zip to extract the installer files from the .iso image downloaded onto the
desktop of your “win2k12Skype” member server.
Now we need to place copies of the Skype Client on machines which we will use to test
the Skype Server. One client (for testing purposes) will be installed on the DC. A second
client can be installed on the base OS.
Download the Skype 2015 Client (i.e. 64 or 32 bit as appropriate)
Place copies of the installer on the desktops of both your base OS and on your DC.
Do not continue until you have successfully met this requirement.
Tasks done
Implemented as explained above.
