Report
AI Summary
This report presents a comprehensive security assessment of water contamination risks at the Dillon Dam, a crucial water source for Denver and a recreational area. The assessment details potential threats, including the dam's layout, recreational activities, and potential contamination sources like toxins and treatment plant failures. A risk matrix is used to evaluate the likelihood and severity of various threats, considering factors such as the presence of toxins, and failures in the water treatment plant. The report further analyzes the new contamination system and its associated risks, including vulnerabilities in the water treatment plant itself and the potential for insider threats. The findings underscore the importance of implementing a robust security risk management plan to protect the water supply and public health.

MAIN BODY
1. Detailed security assessment of threat of water contamination
The Dillon dam is being made where the road runs over the dam and the reservoir itself
and the road is separated from the water by several yards away (Tupa, Simota and Steiner, 2017).
Also, the recreational trail is several feet lower as compared to the road and the road above the
dam is all the time patrolled with armed guards and is also monitored by the CCTV cameras.
Also, in addition to this the surface area of the dam is 3233 acres and is also surrounded by the
26.8 miles of shoreline which contains nearly 83 billion gallons of water.
The major threat here is that this is not just the source of drinking water for the Denver
city but also the major focus for recreational activities like fishing, camping, boating and many
other related things. Another major threat in addition to this is that the treatment of the plant will
experience the failure either because of the flood and this can result in the water to be
contaminated and this will affect the majority of the people as the water of dam is being provided
to the houses of people and they consume that water only.
In addition to this another major threat of the water contamination is that there are many
different types of toxins and other substances which are present in the environment and they
contaminate the water to a great extent. This is majorly because of the reason that when these
toxins like cyanide, ricin, pathogen and other particles are present in the water then the water
gets contaminated and this affects the health of the person to a great extent. Thus, this is another
major threat which leads to the contamination of the water (Barafort, Mesquida and Mas, 2017).

2. Threat assessment and developing a risk rating for the new contamination threat
For the solving of the contamination of water the system which is intended which will
help the dam in resolving the issue of water contamination. Under this system the water system
are installed and through this the water is transferred to all the users. The water passes through
many different stages and this filters the waters (Revilla and Saenz, 2017).
But there are also some threats attached with the new contamination system and the
major one is the water treatment plant itself. This is majorly because of the reason that if

anything wrong takes place in the water plant then the whole water is being contaminated and
this will affect the whole system through which water passes to the users. In addition to this
another threat is of the insiders that are the engineers who understand the system in better
manner and they know how to safeguard the system. But if the people are not loyal to the
company and they do not work in proper manner then this will have a great impact over the
water contamination (Hartmann and Driessen, 2017).
