1IMPLEMENTATION OF LAWS FERPA: It is a federal law which has been protecting the privacy of educational records of students. The law is applicable to the schools in United States that has been accepting funds under the applicable program of the U.S Department of Education (Langub & Lokey-Vega, 2017). FERPA provides an opportunity to students to review their educational records. It facilitates the students to file complaints to the U.S. Department of Education Family Policy Compliance Office. CIPA: The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was introduced for the purpose of addressing the concerns about children accessing inappropriate content over the internet. Therefore certain requirements are imposed by CIPA on various schools and libraries. However, the CIPA does not provide discount for the internet safety policies issued by them. The internet safety policies issued by the CIPA includes various technology protection measures in order to block sites or pictures which contains obscene images or contents related to violation and pornography (Kelly & Seppälä, 2016). Institutions should provide prior notice in order to hold public hearing and meetings to identify the requirement of the proposal. COPPA: The Children Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) was founded for the purpose of protecting the privacy of children under the age of thirteen. ItisessentialthateducationalinstitutionsshouldimplementtheChildrenOnlinePrivacy Protection Act (Moore & Ellsworth, 2014). In recent times various websites are collecting personal data of children aged below 13 where there is a high possibility of misusing them. Summary:
2IMPLEMENTATION OF LAWS Therefore, it is important for the educational institutions to successfully implement the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act 1974 for the protection of student educational records. It is essential on the part of the educational institutions to adopt such internet safety policy initiated by the CIPA. The COPPA protects the children from the negative outcomes of the internet and hence the educational institutions should implement them.
