ABSTRACT
Academic skills are essential for students to learn and implement in their higher schools. There
are various kind of skills which can be used for various tasks in schools to enhance good
behaviour and positive attitude within student's life. Critical thinking skill is used by students to
identify new idea and opportunities to solve any issue. Presentation skill will help students to
analyse how they are going to represent any topic in front of crowd. Planning skill will further
help students to set appropriate targets for their desired achievements in future which will define
the required resources to achieve target, time required to achieve objective and actions to
complete the set targets.

INTRODUCTION
It is essential for every student to focus on the higher education skills such as
communication skill, presentation skill, critical skills and many others (Ciesielski and et. al.,
2019). This will help students to complete their higher education effectively. Such kind of skills
not only help a student in their academic time but it can also help them to start their professional
life and get higher success. All academic skills will help students to build a discipline behaviour
and enhance their good habits and aims. The following report will covers seven academic skills
and their importance in student's life to complete their graduation.

important for students
Critical thinking skill: Critical thinking is defined as the ability to think in most
organised and rational way that enables students to understand connection between idea or facts.
It is important for students to express their thoughts ideas and beliefs in most effective and
understandable manner (Wechsler and et. al., 2018).
Importance of critical thinking for students: It enables students to take proper decisions,
improves their presentation and language skills, promote creativity as well as help to attain
career goals and objectives with efficiency and effectiveness. With having the skill of critical
thinking, students can assess situations and take decisions accordingly that improve their overall
efficiency and effectiveness.
Communication skill: Communication skills are defined as the ability of an individual to
giving as well as receiving information and idea from other person (Tuerk, 2018). It is related to
exchanging information, facts and thoughts through speaking, writing or using other mediums.
Effective communication skill is important for student for transferring information from one
place to another.
Importance of communication skills for students: Communication skills helps students
to present their ideas, view points and concepts to others and influence them with their point of
views (Yeh and et. al., 2019). It helps students to learn concepts in efficient manner form their

teachers which improve them knowledge an understanding regarding academic concepts and
facilitates to attain career goals. Effective communication skill develop professionalism in
students as well as enhance their teamwork and collaborative attitude which help to complete
academic assignment on time with efficiency. With having effective communication skill
students can create effective relationship with others students and colleagues which make
friendly environment and improve efficiency.
Presentation skill: Presentation skill is defined as the ability of an individual that enable
to interact with audience, transfer message and views with clarity, engage audience with
presentation as well as interpret and understand the mindset of listeners. It helps to convey
specific message, idea and view in presentable manner to others and enhance persuasive power.
Importance of presentation skill for students: Presentation skills are important for
students to communicate complex information in simple, understandable and interesting manner
to keep engage audience or listeners (Van Ginkel and et. al., 2020). It enhance self-confidence of
students to convey their ideas and thoughts in front of large audience without hesitation.
Effective presentation skill help students to present concepts and understanding in classroom
what they have learnt. It is the most effective way to explain their learning in understandable
manner. In schools and academic institutes, assignment are provided to students which are
presented in classroom. To present concepts efficient, it is required to have effective
communication, listening, body language and eye-contact skill that help to create students
interest in presentation.
Time management skill: Time management is defined as the method of planning as well
as balancing time among different activities that enable to attain desirable result in efficient
manner (Balbay and Kilis, 2017). Effective time management skills helps to complete defined
task in limited time frame that improves overall efficiency of work. It helps an individual to
allocate time between different activities to accomplish them in proper way.
Importance of time management skill for students: Time management is most important
skill for students which make them more productive and help to attain determined goals and
objectives in specific time period. It enables students to set their academic work according to
schedule as well as priorities their work as well as assignment which help them to run their study
in efficient manner (Ghiasvand and et. al., 2017). Time management helps students to priorities
their work and tackle then accordingly which reduce the level of stress of students and help them

to concentrate on their studies. Management of time according to task allow students to complete
their work on time which improve their confidence level as well as lead them towards attaining
career opportunities.
Planning skill- This skill help students to plan for what they want to achieve in future
(Balasubramanian and et. al., 2021). Here, students plan according to their available resources
and time to fix a target for future. For example, a student plan to study five chapters within 15
days. Then here, the student will analyse a framework that how much time they will give to each
chapter and what all requirements and conditions they need to understand these five chapters
clearly. Hence, this academic skill is one of the most important skill in student's life.
Writing skill- It is essential for a student to learn writing skills which include to reduce
grammatical errors from content, correct content, effective use of punctuations and many others.
Here are few of the important writing skills which must be focused by students in their academic
time-
 handwriting should be good and attractive and easy to understand by teachers.
 There should be no grammatical errors in the paragraphs.
 There should be no spelling mistakes and student must focus on effective use of
punctuations (Sakkir, 2020).
 Student must focus that the writing content which they are writing is related to their
question or not. In case the content did not matched to answer the question then there is
no use of writing long paragraphs.
Research skills- It is essential for every student to have research skills because it will
help student to enhance their capability and identifying whether the content or knowledge which
they are grabbing in schools are correct or not. Here, students can find information from books
and other sources such as internet, word of mouth and many others and research on the topic's
effectiveness and importance in practical life (Shayakhmetova and et. al., 2020). This skill will
help student in preparing their projects and assignments by finding the answers of questions and
enhance their understanding and focusing power well.
RECOMMENDATIONS-
From the above information it is recommended that a student can utilize the various kind of skills
in their every day life to make their learnings easy and become a good and disciplinary student in
their higher education.

 It is recommended that students can use their critical skills to make their projects and
assignments unique and attractive than others to gain good marks.
 It is also recommended that students must communicate well with their teachers,
classmates, parents and many other people and ask their queries on regular basis to
update their knowledge. They must focus on their language, listening power and patience
level.
 It is also recommended to students that they must focus on the font size of presentations
and must focus that they will use appropriate images in their presentations. Reading the
presentation is not a good habit. Explaining each slide can be good in presentation skill.
 Students can make a list of priority and write deadlines for each task so that they it can
remind them again and again about deadlines of completing any academic task.
 It is also recommended that students can perform their SWOT analysis to identify
whether they are gaining their strengths according to their plan or not so that they can
make corrections in case of any negative result.
CONCLUSION
As per above report, it can be concluded that in higher education students requires
various skills and competencies are required to complete their academic work. Some academic
skills are communication skills, presentation skills, time-management skills, planning skills,
research skills and writing skills that help students to improve their efficiency and complete work
on time. These skills are important for students such as communication skill is important for
conveying their message and understanding other point of view as well. Through time-
management students manage their work as per schedule and complete them on time. Students
takes various seminars and academic lectures to improve them that help them to attain desirable
career objectives.
