Introduction
In today’s world of technology, understanding cybersecurity has become an essential
aspect of any individual, organization or a company using computer systems. This is because the
advancement in technology has increased the risk of cyber-attacks and security threats. Data
protection from hankering and cyber-attacks require advanced knowledge in cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity is defined as the process of protecting networks, information and computer
programs from illegal or unauthorized access. In order to protect computer systems from cyber-
attacks, organizations have implemented the application, information and network security
measures to protect their applications, information and network systems from attacks and threats
that arise in the design, development and maintenance phases. Mainly, application security
measures include validation of input parameters, user authentication, parameter manipulation
management and log auditing. In regard to information security, techniques such as
identification, authentication and authorizations of users and cryptography have been
implemented. Network security has also been taken care of through firewalls, anti-viruses and
virtual private networks (VPNs). This paper analyses the past literature on cybersecurity and its
importance.
