Abstract
The paper looks into the importance of preserving the hydrosphere with the growing
degradation of the resource. Water is the most potent resource for survival of life in the planet. It
is of utmost importance that these resources are preserved and protected to maintain the
ecological balance in the planet. The hydrosphere sustains a major portion of the Earth’s life and
also plays a pivotal role in maintaining the climate of the planet. The hydrosphere comprises of
all the water bodies which includes fresh water and saltwater resources, the estuaries and lakes,
perennial and non perennial river systems and glaciers which are referred to as the cryosphere.
The paper has reviewed the anthropogenic impact on the hydrosphere and its effect in the
environment. The paper will also find the ways to mitigate the problems and recommended
suggestions that can be implemented.

Running head: Hydrosphere Abstract
Introduction
The growing issues of fresh water contamination and resultant impacts in the human and
animal life have led to the need for its conservation and purification. Water is an essential
component of the Earth and is the reason for life in the planet. Though water is an infinite
resource, the amount of fresh water available is only around 2.5% of the total hydrosphere. It is
therefore necessary to monitor, conserve, prevent and restrict the wastage of water. The paper
will look into the importance of scrutinizing water quality, recycling of water by treatment
facilities and waste water management (Gleick, 1993). The paper will also discuss the
importance of monitoring water pollution and suggest implementation plans to mitigate such
problems. The paper also reviews the various technologies that are in use and the necessary
infrastructure that would be required to conserve and use the resource sustainably (Cosgrove &
Rijsberman, 2014). The paper also takes into consideration the concepts of water resilience and
lays emphasis on the implementation of these technologies to make a sustainable environment.

Conclusion:
A look at the present situation of the nation and the world with regards to water scarcity
and water pollution, it is highly important that sustainable techniques and modern technologies
be implemented and a framework be developed based on the innovative technologies and
policies to mitigate the issues of the water pollution. The hydrosphere has immense potential not
just as a resource but also as medium for sustenance of life. It is high time policy makers and
stake holders take heed to understand the current scenario and initiate actions that can create
sustainable future for the environment and for the animal life altogether.
