Problem Statement
In Looksmart Alterations
Healthy Indoor Air Quality involves ventilation, temperature and airflow. Human Odours and
the smell of the air fresheners’ fragrances can be found in Shopping Malls like Looksmart
Alterations popularly known as Volatile Organic Compounds (Mendell, 1990). All these
smells and fragrances in LookSmart Alterations can lead to allergy and asthma. The owner of
the shopping Centre must adopt strategies like air conditioning, efficient heating and
ventilation.

Methods of Providing Ventilation
In Diamond Nail
In Diamond Nail, ventilation must be integrated with effective implementation of air-
conditioning system (Magrini et al., 2007).The nail care and waxing smell is hazardous and
can prove to be fatal for Diamond Nail Employees since nail care and waxing contains
harmful chemical substances. Addition of humidifiers to those systems can lead to sick
building syndrome. Installation of HVAC system in the air-conditioned houses can reduce the
chance of sick building syndrome.
In Espresso Pump
Coffee beans are roasted in Espresso Pump. The roasting smell can create respiratory
problems like asthma or emphysema. Diacetyl and 2,3-pentanedione are two added as
flavouring agents to coffee which often leads to lung disease. Installation of HVAC system in
the air-conditioned houses can reduce the chance of related respiratory diseases.

Performance Requirements
Performance Requirements for installing HVAC are based on AS and BCA standards-
 Fans configured in the washrooms must have an extraction capacity of 25 lt/s
 Fans in the kitchen must have extraction capacity of 25 lt/s
 Fans implemented in the toilets must have extraction capacity of 50 lt/s
