IMPROVEMENT OF PATIENTS’ SAFETY
Introduction
The role of a nurse is very crucial as it helps the patient, the doctor and the society to be
germ-free and get basic medical facilitates in the purest environment from expertise hands. In this
study, the analysis of a document related to the role of social media in meeting the obligation of
nurses under national law has been done. The considered document is presented by the Nursing and
Midwifery Board AHPRA in November 2019. In this document, a guideline for better use of social
media by new graduate nurses as well as other nurses has been implemented by the government.
The title of the guideline is “Social Media: How to meet your obligations under the National
Law” (AHPRA & National Board, 2019). In this study leadership quality of the new graduate
nurses while taking care of the safety of their patients concerning the respective social media
guideline and the atmosphere of the hospital is discussed effectively and efficiently (Daly,
Speedy, & Jackson, 2015). Some appropriate strategies are also provided in the end to deal with
the identified challenges effectively and efficiently.
Leadership Role and Social Media
In every organisation there is a great need for leaders, which can help employees in dealing
with the smallest to biggest problems. This further can help organization in the accomplishment of
their overall objectives. In hospitality units also there are nurses as leaders, which lead new
graduate nurses and other nurses to accomplish their tasks in the best possible and proficient
manner. The nurse as a leader holds some authority and responsibility which can help in directing
other new graduate nurses in the right direction, to fulfill their day to day goals and the ultimate
goal of the business. Social media also plays an important part in analysing the management of new
graduate nurses by the leader. There are some parameters that every nurse has to take into
consideration while using social media (Cope & Murray, 2017). The new graduate nurses get
motivated, guided and directed by the leader to work for the safety and security of their patients
even from the evils of social media as well. In this process of leading the main motive of the head
nurse as the leader is to maintain records of the patients effectively, optimal performance of new
graduate nurses, conflict management, ethical considerations, etc while accomplishing their duties
and also while using social media (Holten & Brenner, 2015).
The most crucial duty of a nurse is to bring safety to their patients, nurse as a leader try all
of the parameters it can in building the trust of their patients in the hospital and its staff. This trust
is maintained by nurses by effective management of the head nurse as the leader. The role of social
media in the life of every person has grown to very big heights. Similarly, nurses also use social
media to express their feeling or for entertainment. In this scenario, it is expected from the new
