INTRODUCTION
Emotional intelligence helps an individual to maintain healthy relationships, helps in
achieving success in day to day life and even at schools and work and colleges and at every
aspect in one’s life. Personal and professional goals and objectives are also achieved with the
help of emotional intelligence as a major step in an individual’s life (Estévez, Jiménez and Segura
2019). It helps one to build stronger relationship at workplace and thereby reducing stress as one
can share one’s problems with teammates or colleagues. It also helps in achieving and increasing
team productivity directly or indirectly affecting efficiency and effectivity of team and
succeeding in achieving organisational goals and objectives. It also enables an individual to
handle emotions and thereby helping and guiding people to be more successful and letting them
being happier in their life.

EMOTIONAL AWARENESS
Emotional intelligence of an individual at the workplace helps in achieving success in his
professional life. It lets an individual to feel one’s feelings and emotions and it also involves
having and maintaining a balance in one’s working elements along with self awareness, self
regulation in professional and personal life, along with being motivated an inspired to work and
making teammates happy by building great healthy relations in an organisation, thereby
maintaining and developing social skills in one.
The employee working in Tesco, should know to deal with criticism, negatives in and
around present in Tesco and should also know how to accept criticism and negative aspects with
responsibilities of work. Taking negative aspects and criticism in work, that employee tries to
maintain an emotional balance with emotions and feelings (Kozlowski, Hutchinson, Hurley and
Browne, 2018). Employee can get criticism from anyone in workplace, be it teammates,
colleagues, lower staff that is subordinates working under that employee or seniors or even from
top level management. Employee working for Tesco should maintain a balance and show know
how to deal with all these negative aspects that are related to duties and responsibilities.

That employee working in Tesco can improve and maintain a great balance with
emotional intelligence. This can be improved by following certain tips. These tips are discussed
below:
Balancing emotions
Feeling emotions in one’s body
Naming emotions
Not to bust emotions
Observing emotions without trying to fix

Trusting and improving in work
These are some important tips that can be taken to ensure and building good emotional
awareness by an individual at workplace (Rezvani and Khosravi, 2019). This will also help that
person to relate better with other employees and thereby creating a healthy and happy
environment at workplace. It will also help an individual to look at problems and issues
differently, deeply and more objectively. Moreover it will allow to control and feel better and
also even better with expressing feelings and emotions.
RESILIENCE
Resilience simply is a strategy or a technique adopted that will help employees in tackling stress
and tension, managing conflicts in organisation, building a competitive spirit at a good level, and
even for handling and addressing challenges in job profile. It is very important to improve
resilience at workplace because people nowadays consider working in jobs as a stressing
situation in their lives (Sharp, Bourke and Rickard 2020). Resilience helps employees in dealing
with various and different ups and downs that they have to face while working in an
organisation. It also makes them learn about dealing and even bouncing back from the challenges
they face in their working places.
One of perfect example can be a employee working for Marks and Spencer can face a
issue regarding continuous change in team. Employee’s manager due to his personal reason
keeps changing his team in shorter time period. The employee faces a lot of problems and issues
regarding cooperating with new teams, new people, not so easy getting inside the team’s
environment, people not accepting him because of trust issues and many other related problems

try to cope up with all these changes and should try to build healthy and strong relations with

approach and outlook at working place and also in life that is in both personal and professional
life. It also helps in building motivation for working. Resilience will lead thus to grow and
develop at personal and professional level.
SELF CONTROL
Self control acts as main fuel in effective and efficient self regulating at work place. There is a
complete concentration of employees on their described goals and objectives, even helping them
with avoiding and blocking distractions and other irrelevant behaviours of other employees along
with other irrelevant information (Sun, Liu. and Yu, 2019). It also ensures behaviour of employees
and their emotions along with organisation’s policies and norms. It also encourages employees to
have higher self controlling power as it motivates them to be great leaders of future.
An employee who is working in a bakery store should know to have control with eating
habits and maintaining hygiene. If that employee does not make sure about this, then it can lead
to loss of customers for bakery and then loss of profits. Whereas if that employee maintains great
hygiene along with control of eating habits then it can result in great profits and great goodwill
and value of bakery.

There are various ways and methods by which self control can be improved and good
habits can be build in any employee at workplace. These ways and methods are as follows:
Removing extra wishes and temptations
Proper checking and measurements of progress
Learning stress and tension management techniques
Prioritizing things that are most important
Having self control on activities
Concentrating on emotions and working habits
Neglecting people with bad habits or demotivating people
These all need to be opted for maintaining and having a great self control as self control
helps in stabilising and solving various problems. Self control helps in maintaining balance with
anger issues along with trust issues in every aspect related to people in personal and professional
life. Self control is basically helpful in making and enhancing greater decision making power
with choices in professional and personal life.
SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE/ EMPATHY
Social intelligence basically is the way of treating people, their reactions and awareness and
interaction with each others in different different situations (Zhang, Cao and Wang, 2018). social
intelligence at workplace helps in conflict avoiding, managing human resources and
communicating effectively and efficiently at working place.
As if in hotel Premier Inn, the manager does not know how to communicate well with
employees and pass information. Then this can lead to various losses in all departments, mis-
coordination between works and even in between employees and departments, resulting in
double works, wastage of resources and many other imbalances in working and operating
activities.
There are many ways, strategies and methods that can help in achieving or increasing
social intelligence in working places. These are described below:
Being clear with communication or instructions
Being real, honest and authentic
Not being judgemental to anyone
Thinking before acting, speaking or reacting in any situation

Understanding rules and regulations of workplace
It can be stated that social intelligence is essential for letting know of working styles,
progress in an organisation, building effective communication skills, building strong and healthy
relations thus improving and building teamwork for creating and having positive and effective
results in an organisation along with creating productive working environment for employees in
their organisation. Social skills will lead to development of a person’s ability in understanding
and managing personal and professional relationships. It also helps in understanding behaviour
of different people. Leaders possess great social skills and they motivate and inspire people and
their employees to give their best skills, efforts and results and in the end aligning their
behaviour with other employees and even with organisational goals and pre determined goals
and objectives.
