child with additional needs entering your service.
This section should provide a concise overview of the child’s current skills and
serve as the basis of the child’s program planning and service delivery for the
upcoming year. As appropriate, address the following areas
a) BRIEFLY DESCRIBE:
The child interests, and how the child's developmental delay or medical condition
affects his/her access to and participation in age appropriate activities (approx. 100
words):
Sia : 5 years old
When a toddler, it has been difficult for Sia to coordinate and gel up with her peers as well as
family. She was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2 years and has been suffering from
communication difficulties and repetitive behaviour. She is interested in drawing and painting.
However, as she faces communication difficulties, she is unable to mingle with peers and family
members. She faces difficulties in both verbal and non- verbal communication. Hence, Autism has
impacted her social behaviour to a great extent. She is unable to participate in the outdoor games
and activities with her classmates.
b) MEDICAL HISTORY (if relevant): Briefly describe how the child’s disability or
medical condition affects his/her access to and participation in age appropriate
activities:
As Sia suffers from Autism, she displays signs of delayed speech and communication skills.
Minor changes upset her and make hr aggressive. She also has difficulty understanding
other people’s emotions.
Her hearing is normal.
Her Vision is also normal.
b) CHILD STRENGTHS:
The child is able to concentrate on the task at hand. She has great interest in drawing and painting
and does this with utmost concentration.
c) CHILD CONCERNS & NEEDS: Consider and prioritize the necessary supports that
adults need to incorporate in order for the child to access and participate in age
appropriate activities (within a regular early childhood setting with his/her same-age
peers and/or within their home environment) (approx. 100 words).
She is unable to deal with emotions of self and others.
Minor changes upset Sia. As she faces communication difficulties, she is unable to develop
connections with people. Her behaviour is characterized by presence of repetitions which
makes others around her uncomfortable. Therefore, she needs support during

communicating and expressing herself. There is also need to make her able to participate in
activities with other children of her age.
d) OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
Private early childhood programs will be beneficial for Sia. Home visiting will also assist in
making family members understand her. Through this, techniques can be taught to the
family members to deal with her repetitive behaviour. They can also be guided for adopting
specific communicating techniques so that Sia engages with them at a greater level than
before.

Services and support- The following services and supports are available which can be
used in Sia’s case:
Austism Specific Early Learning and Care Centres ( Department of Social Services,
2021)- The Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centres helps the children with
the support of long day care as the centres provides the children with the services
based on the best practice principles for the children with autism.
Early Days Workshops – The workshops provide the various types of support to the
parents and the care takers of the children with the autism. The centres help in
learning new skills and creating links with the local community where they live.
PlayConnect Playgroups- The playgroups provides the children that are under the
age of seven with the autism support by meeting weakly for 2 hours in the school
time and the playgroup sessions with the variety of activities.

for treating Sia’s concerns. Through this, recognition of Sia’s negative thoughts and
behaviour pattern can be analysed.
ABA therapists- Helps the child to treat the autism spectrum as they are highly trained in
the treatment of the children with the autism.
Physical resources- Visual-motor control can help the child with autism to understand the
behaviour of the moving objects and analyse the situation and other mobility resources that
can improve the mobility of child can be helpful for Sia’s concern.

various suggestions that can be given so that the child can be included in the
communication with its family.
Giving attention- The parents should give attentions to the areas where Sia fails to
communicate with them. This can help the parents in analysing the reason behind the

Providing child with visual means- Sia should be provided with the visual means of
communication so that the child can find it confident and communicate effectively with her
parents. This can help the parents in achieving better and effective results in the

Gestures- The parents of Sia are required to communicate with her by the use of gestures
to communicate with them so that when Sia feels that she is not included in the
conversation and finds it hard to communicate the strategy will provide her with a mean to
communicate (Evans, 2021).
Support positive behaviour- The parents of Sia are required to support her positive
behaviour so that she can be motivated towards the inclusion of herself in communicating
with her parents. This can be a result of giving positive feedbacks to Sia at the time when

The socio- economic status in the development of strategies will create aspects of how
effectively Sia’s economic status will help in addressing the measures of improvement in the
Autism by framing strategies. Diverse experiences play an important role in the
development of strategies which helps in knowing that how different perspectives and
experiences are analysed which helps in conveying the message in appropriate manner.
While analysing the different role in the development of strategies it becomes convenient to
