Abstract
Social media is considered as one of the
most important platform which is directly or
indirectly affecting every ones life at certain
limit. And as the role of social media is
increased the respectability of the social
networking site is also increased and for safety
and privacy purpose user and service provider
both have to make their effort at their own
level. Hence social media is the important for
business as well as social prospective. If we
compare the social media on the basis of the
age group, the most influenced age group is
teenagers because they are spending their lots
of time on social media and are getting
distracted towards their studies. Along with
that various fake opportunities are deals are
used in order to attract people and make them
fool.
Introduction
Social media can be considered as an
internet based communication system in which
communication platform is provided by the
internet. It is same as any other communication
in which to complete any conversation two end
are required (sender and receiver). Social
media provides various from through which
people can express their thought and views
such as by sharing images and video, by
writing blogs and posts in order to express their
feeling in the form of words. Through these
social media sites millions of people are able to
get connected through each other and sharing
their information with their family, friends and
loving once. These days life of people is
revolving around the social media sites. Along
with this there are lots of drawbacks also out of
which security and privacy is one of important
(Kaplan, and Haenlein, 2010). And data
security is one of its part as people are sharing
their image and personal information therefore
advance privacy majors should be adopted by
the groups in order to prevent the information
stolen of the individual and in case if this
happens than the person should be informed.
This can be prevented by the individual at
some level by using strong password and using
a proper combination of alphabets, number and
special character. An individual should not
logged in by using public computer or internet
because in this case the chances get stolen id
and password easily (Lenhart, Macgill,
Madden and Smith, 2007). In order to maintain
the privacy and security always carefully
update your status and do not revel any specific
information about your travelling plans such
where, when, how much days kind of
information should not be revel by the
individual. Sometime when people are not
concern about their the privacy of their account
in that case their account may get hacked and

the hackers may use it for certain illegal
purpose due to which you may get into trouble.
Therefore if you are not using your account
regularly or not concern about its safety in that
case its better to delete or deactivate it because
it may cause trouble for you. The companies
that are creating a world that is of social media
are facebook, twitter, linkedin, snapchat,
whtasapp and much more who played an
important role in creating a new world of social
media (Mangold, and Faulds, 2009). Social is
considered as the platform for advertising also.
As the Mangold, and Faulds, (2009)
stated that social media is cannot be considered
as a distraction always because it is a biggest
outlet platform of news, advertisement, social
issues. But the statement of another
Kietzmann,etc., (2011) is contradictory of the
previous one because in this the Asur, and
Huberman, (2010) is considering social media
as false information providing. According to
the Xiang, and Gretzel, (2010) social media
helps the student by providing access and
information about various internship and
assignment. Where on the other according to
the other Lenhart, Macgill, Madden, and
Smith, (2007) social media are degrading the
students performance because students are
taking interest in other activity and getting
distracted from their studies. According to
Correa, Hinsley, and De (2010) social media
are playing important role in improving the
state of people and producing new friends. On
the other hand according to the Moorhead, etc.,
(2013) social media are the biggest reason of
creating stress into the persona life of
individual. According to the Kaplan and
Haenlein, (2010) social media are helping
women in order to improve their situation into
the society by women empowerment and also
helping the unemployed people by providing
employment to them. On the other hand
according to the Gilbert, and Karahalios,
(2009) social media is harming the quality of
the job and most of the are made fool by the
fake opportunities. According to the Couldry,
(2012) social media improves the
communication during the crises of events on
the other hand according to the author social
media users are undefended to safety
operation.
Methodology
The techniques and methods that are
required to administration the investigation are

order to generate the research documentation
secondary research is adopted in present
p[roject. In secondary research information
data are collected from the journal, books and

authors.

Aim: To identify the importance of security
and privacy in context to social media.
Social medial has changed the lifestyle
of every individual and every sector is affected
by this because through this the marketing
sector is turned into digital marketing, through
video conferences meeting are taking place
across the world within few seconds without
travelling any where. Along with that it also
affected the social life of the individual buy
reducing the distance between their loving
once and bring them close into the virtual
world. Security and privacy are two important
concern for any social media sites because it is
a platform where people share their
information with the world. But the data that is
uploaded or provided by the individual should
not be missed used by any one (Kietzmann,
Hermkens, McCarthy and Silvestre, 2011.). In
order to prevent such kind of issues or
problems social media security is important.
To achieve this any kind of antivirus or data
security application cannot work. This can only
be reached by using certain methods that can
be used to avoid them. While using social
media site people generally uses their mobile
or laptop, in order to log into these sites the
people need to enter their login I and password
and once it is logged in it will remain logged in
until the user log out the portal. Due to this free
access is provided to the other person who are
using this phone without entering login id and
password. In order to implement the security
on social media account a user can classify the
crowd into close friend, relative, region and
city and implement restriction on the basis of
that so that only the close friend and relative
can view your post and know about your
activity. Usually people have habit to post
DOB, home town, address, mobile number, e-
mail id, religion and marital status on their
profile and other people can easily view these
sensitive information and missuses them.
When we post an images or video on our
account but it reflect on our friends account to
and can be easily view by other person but it
can be avoided by making certain security
changes into your account so that it will be
only visible to friends only. To much updating
on your social media can also create problems
for you such as let you have posted that “ I am
looking to spend my next 15 days in London ”
but due to this information that is provided by
you on your account may cause robbery into
your house. Another important issue of
social media site is privacy of the data. While
posting into images and videos on any social
networking site the privacy of the content get
reduced automatically because it can be viewed
by many people if the privacy majors are not
implemented into proper manner (Gerbaudo,
2012). Therefore for privacy factor user have

major responsibility because the
implementation of all the features are done by
the user and if the user is making his profile
public in that case social networking sites
cannot do any thing. Similarly privacy is
equally important aspect of any social media
site usually Facebook and twitter provides
negligent control to the friends and family on
the setting controls. Usually people want to
increase number of friends and followers on
their social media account due to which
sometime they accept the unknown friends
request that may cause trouble for them in
future. These days following on the twitter
become trend these days.
In order to prevent such dilemma
various tip are provided that can reduce. By
using unique and strong password for social
media sites and do not share your password
with any one else. While creating password
one should always take care of all the possible
combinations that can be generated by
alphabets, digits and special symbols in order
to generate a strong password. If you are using
your mobile phone for social networking sites
in that case you should lock your phone so that
no one can access you account without your
permission. One should use different password
for every social media account. While creating
an account set such kind of security question
that cannot be answered by any other and
answer are not known to any one else. In case
of using your phone for social media account
use various app lock services in order to
protect your account from others access.
Always accept the friends request if the select
friends whom you personally know no need to
accept the unknown friends request this may
create problems for you. Account of social
media sites are being hacked regularly so to
prevent such situation regular precaution
should be adopted. Always careful about
sharing information on social media sites and
avoid sharing of sensitive data such as DOB,
marital status, address, mobile number and
much more. Regularly protect your computer
form virus and threats buy installing antivirus
to protect your computer for any kind of
threats. And once you are done do not forget to
log out your account. Always be aware of any
suspicious message, link that require additional
information in order to login. Always use the
updated internet browser because updated
browsers also provide lots of security features
that may reduce the chances of hacking and
data stolen.

conclusion can be drawn as the social media
are playing very important role in this
technological generation by improving the
social relationship of the individual and giving

platform where he or she can express their
feeling, thoughts and emotions by using
words , images, videos and stickers. Apart
from that social media are also improving the
advertising quality by providing the concept of
digital marketing through which the product
can be advertise through internet. On the other
hand lots of social discussion and suggestion
are requested by various organization in order
to know the interest of the people. Along with
this there are lots of drawback also such social
media does not provide the security and
privacy to their users and frequently hacking of
account takes place. In order to stop this
various features and tips are also provided but
due to careless approach of individuals such
kind of dilemma are occurring frequently. In
the above report lots of views and thoughts of

there are lots of benefit as well as drawbacks of
social media.
