NURSING 2IntroductionA deep insight into the influence of mass media on communities helps in understandingthat information presented in media item guides the beliefs and outlook of the common people. Itis not surprising that policy reforms are based to a great extent on how individuals perceive theinformation received through such platforms. The aim of the present paper is to analyze fourmedia items on the current indigenous health and wellbeing issue of domestic violence.Domestic violence faced by indigenous population has been repeatedly pointed out to be anational concern at the contemporary era. The present demographical data highlight that it is aserious problem that needs urgent attention of the respective healthcare departments. Whiledomestic violence takes many forms, all of them are unacceptable. Social determinants of healthhave been linked to the root cause of such inappropriate social incidences. The purpose is to linkthe contemporary issues as presented in the mass media with those discusses in unit classes,content and readings. The media items have been selected from different forms of masscommunication such a newspapers and online blogs, and the sources of each item is different.For each media item, a summary of the key issues presented in the item is provided. The contentis them analyzed on the basis of literature. How the media item contributes to the topic andcurrent debate is the next part of the analysis. The bottom line was that tackling thissevere issues needs more robust strategies which are more to mere’ band-aid solutions’. Thearticle pinpoints that the prime minister has already acknowledged the fact that domesticviolence is a deadly and tragic epidemic whose affect is on the entire nation. Though thesentiment is new to certain section of the population, the indigenous population is morevulnerable to it as indicated from data of the last two decades. The main reason behindintergenerational trauma is practices of colonization. Substantial disparities in indigenous healthoutcomes also contribute to domestic violence. The contribution of federal or local governmentto address the concern among indigenous population is not adequate. The Coalition governmenthad allocated funds for tackling domestic violence. However, most of such funds are targetedtoward specific measures tohelp communities in remote. There is therefore limited scope of theinvestment to address concerns of violence in regional and urban areas. There is also a wrongbelief that the members of the indigenous community living in regional areas and urban areascan get help from the mainstream services. The author further highlights that changes that are tobe included in the present provision of domestic violence intervention. The key recommendationpointed out is that reforms in policies would alone not suffice. What is needed at the earliest isservices that can rightfully address the intergenerational trauma for helping individuals rebuild a
