Based on an online article titled “Elon Musk discusses why Tesla Cars may not arrive anytime
soon in India”, it is evident that the message is clear but there needs to be some grammatical
errors which need to be corrected. For instance, the first sentence asserts that “Musk, CEO of
Tesla , has said …. Extremely higher duties in India, and … higher duties would make Tesla cars
unaffordable …” (ET Online, 2019). it is quite evident that there is repetition in the sentence and
it would have been better if it was written that “Tesla CEO Musk said that … importation duties
are extremely high, making Tesla cars inexpensive”. The article asserts that there were reports
that Tesla may not gain entry into the Indian market and even gone ahead to provide a genuine
Twitter handle screenshot of Elon Musk giving several reasons as to why the company could not
afford its operations in India in the nearest future.
An example in the article of an assertion that does not have an attribution is when in the
article we are told that an Indian team had posed a question to Musk as to when he plan to bring
Tesla, his company to India and we are not which Indian team it was. This implies that the article
had merely relied on hearsay by asserting that it was only reported that Musk had answered that
it was going to occur very soon ( Dingwall, Labrie, McLennon & Underwood 2019).
Based on the article, it is quite conflicting because as much as Musk had said that Tesla
was unable to enter the Indian market because of the prevailing import duties, it is finally
indicated in the article that Musk highly believed that recent alterations made in the sales tax
might become helpful in future. This means there is still hope that Tesla may operate in India
soon.
