INTRODUCTION
In nursing it is important for nurse to communicate in effective way with patient so that care
services is provided. Also, it enables in finding out what are care need of patients and how it can
be fulfilled (Berger & et.al., 2018). The communication must be a two way process in which data
and info is exchanged. Similarly, I also experienced significant episode of communication when
I was doing training in health care hospital. The total training was of 60 days and it highly
created a great impact on my life.
Moreover, I will be describing about counselling approach that is cognitive behavioural
therapy which is used I communication. Also, I will mention about interview process which I
faced.
Overview of episode of communication
In this episode, Mrs. Smith is a client who is school teacher. She is 40 years old and is highly
experienced in communication. The client is a teacher is primary school. She is married and is
having child of age 8 years old (Birnbaum, 2017). Mrs. Smith lives with her husband. She got
slipped in kitchen while doing some work. So, she was admitted into hospital. During her past
medical record it was found that Mrs. Smith is suffering from depression. She is not
communicating properly with staff. So, a plan was made to have discussion with her and assess
her mental state. So, while communicating with her I found that she is facing domestic abuse
from her husband. She said that her husband behaviour got changed after birth of child. He
became more violent and angry. Hence, due to domestic abuse she is facing some health
complications as well. Thus, as a mental nurse my role is to provide health care services to her.
Due to mental illness Mrs. Smith is also facing emotional issues as well. Hence, she has decided
to get divorced with her husband (O’Sullivan, and Carr, 2018)
The mental illness is affecting her roles as she is not able to teach students. Moreover, many
times she is not able to answer question of children. Besides, there is change in her behaviour as
well as now she scolds and get angry at children frequently (Cameron & et.al., 2017). Hence, due
to it there is rise in conflicts with superior. I also found that due to domestic violence Mrs. Smith
is suffering from anxiety and depression. Thus, it has highly impacted on her concentration level.
However, I found that her functioning is affected due to change in behaviour. Along with it, I
analysed there are certain variables which is affecting Mrs. Smith behaviour and feelings. They
are social and environmental. In this social was that she was living with her husband who was
