INTRODUCTION
Learning can be defined as a process of seeking for a new skills and developing these
skills by the help of guide (Vafaee and Suzuki, 2020) . In relation to the current report there is
discussion about the effectiveness of learning where the strategies which can be adopted by
the student to improve the listening ability will be described. There is also discussion on
strategies which can be adopted by the teacher to increase the ability of understanding in
students for the lectures.
BACKGROUND
In relation to the current environment of pandemic, different schools and colleges are
facing lock down. This directly impacted on the learning abilities of students. To improve the
current situation where is introduction of different kind of apps like Zoom. These are helpful
in providing access to the students. But it also requires that the learning ability of the student
should be developed to acquire the information provided with these lectures in effective
manner and for their personal growth and benefits.
MAIN BODY
Evaluate some strategies that students can use to improve their listening ability.
There are some strategies which can be adopted by the organisation to improve the
listening ability and achieve the goals and objectives in an appropriate manner. These are
discussed below:
Be fully in the moment: This is the first strategy which can be adopted by an
individual while performing a particular course attending a lecture on zoom. It is helpful for a
learner to listen all the words clearly and interpret the correct meaning of lectures passed by
the teacher on the zoom. This also makes them to learn effectively as well as identify the
information in an appropriate v but paying attention to the words and the tone. This is helpful
in identifying the facial expression and body languages which can be used to improve the
working. This will help the learner in getting the information by underlining the key words.
Put yourself in shoes: This is also an effective strategy where a student has to show
their intentions as well as their learning ability to the teacher who is teaching on the zoom
classes (Shin, 2016). This is because if student want to show their its interest within the class it

has to agree or disagree with the way of teaching use by the teacher as well as the information
supplied by the teacher. This will help in making the system or two ways process where both
the individuals can get benefits and make the learning process effective.
Pick up in the key points: It is the most effective strategy which can be adopted by a
student while learning something from the lectures especially from the zoom classes. Under
the strategy a student can use to pick up the key points within the class and ask from the
teacher about these points. This is helpful to the both because it manages the working as well
as helps them in taking notes and identifying the current meaning and use of words in the
present scenario.
Being active listener: For increasing the learning ability within an individual the
most appropriate strategy which can be adopted by a student is being an active listener. This
is because, by the use of effective listening skills individual can develop a perspective
regarding the lectures and can use it to attend maturity. This will also help in increasing the
focus as well as response time of an individual by actively listening to the lectures given by
the teacher in zoom classes (Nafi, Qabaja and Al-Kar, 2016).
Development of desire for growth: It is also useful for a student to develop effective
learning skills as well as use the classes in an effective manner. Under this, a student can
develop porosity and open mindedness in relation to a desire for continuous growth. This is
helpful to a student in focusing on the subject as well as improving learning ability while
performing the task related to subject course. Also manage the action of individual and help
in attaining a maturity level address in the continuous growth.
It can be evaluated that there are various strategies which can be adopted by a student
to improve the learning ability. A student can adopt one or more strategies in relation to the
difficulty of the course as well as the ability of individual to learn from the classes. It is
mandatory for the student to adopt these abilities because of the pandemic covid-19. Help in
developing and using the course in effective manner as well as increasing the skills for future
period.
How can teachers help students understand their lectures?
There are different strategies which can be adopted by the teacher to improve the
learning abilities of students as well as help them in learning. These strategies are discussed
below:

Active student prior knowledge: It is the best strategy which can be used by the
teacher where it can give assignments to the students about the topic which they are going to
start in future. This will help the teacher in giving the inside of the topic as well as increasing
the ability of understanding a particular topic by the students. This is because by researching
on the topic students get favourable to different aspects of the topic as well as they will know
the things and recall the subject at the time teacher used to teach the topic (Hoppe, 2018).
Engaging active learning: This strategy can also adopt by the teacher where they can
engage the students to be learn actively. Under this system, students can use to learn and
engage in learning the adoption of new and innovative methods. The teacher can use to divide
the class timings in small amounts so that students can actively learn the things in an effective
manner. Teacher can also use to ask the students about looking their notes and revising the
content.
Use of question: Cross question is effective method which can be used by the teacher
within the class where it can be used to ask the questions from the students related to the
current and previous topics. This is beneficial engaging the active learning process within the
lecture. Using of questions will help the teacher in managing its function and achieving its
objectives. Teacher can use to list questions while teaching the topics where it can begin with
low level of questions related to the current topic and can use hard level of questions to teach
the concept more effectively. This will maintain the environment of the lecture as well as
help the student in learning more effectively (Becker, 2016).
Force to make notes: Notes are effective tool which can be useful in managing the
learning process within a lecture class. This is because by keeping the notes, student can
memorize the information supplied by the teacher for longer period of time. A teacher must
use to force the students for making effective notes which can be used in future time in
relation to revising in recognising the topics which are already taught by the teacher (Brown,
2016).
Recommendations
In relation to making the listening process effective. There are some recommendations
which can be followed by the teacher to implement the strategies in effective manner and
achieve the goals and objectives of learning and teaching. These recommendations are
mentioned below:

 It is recommended to teacher that they can use easy topics in beginning so that they
can develop the interest of students while teaching on zoom platform.
 It is also recommended that teacher can use fast network to improve the quality of
videos for effective listening and learning process.
 Teacher can also go with different platforms and other than zoom to improve the
quality of their video classes and lectures.
 It is also recommended that teacher can use short notes and key points in relation to
making there notes effective where they can provide effective lectures. This will
improve the communication between student and teacher as well as increase the
ability of listening and learning in students.
 In last, it is recommended that there are various functions which can be used by
teacher like jokes interest development and extra-curricular activity within the video
class to building the interest of students and implementing the strategies in effective
way.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above mentioned information that there are various
functions which can be performed by the teacher for improving the listening and learning
abilities of students. It can also see that due to the current situation of pandemic. It is Scope
of online classes increasing and impacting English learning abilities of students in room
lectures. This can be improved by the strategies implemented by the teachers and the students
while learning from these platforms.
