Introduction
Reading skill is know to be the ability through which the student may decode the
meaning from text (van and et. al, 2018). This skill include, strong vocabulary and fluency. To
get fluent in reading skill student has to bring a strong grip over words phrases. Apart from this,
written skill of students is equally important, with the help, of effective written skill student may
share their views and opinions by writing. This report speaks about about the strategies through
which the students can increase their reading ability. In this report there are some suggestions
have been mentioned through which the students may improve their written skills.
1. Strategies to improve reading ability
Reading ability of a student is one of the important skill through which they get success in their
professional career and in their life as well. Reading ability helps them to improve their
communication skill as well. With the habit of reading students make a strong grip over
vocabulary and also it increases their knowledge.
There are some strategies through which students can enhance their reading ability.
By highlighting the text – students should learn the habit of highlighting the text ,or they can
underline the important and valuable information which they read or which can help them in the
near future (Chen and et.al, 2018). By highlighting the text will help them in the near future
when they again read the same topic or thing, thus they can improve their reading ability and
skills.
Fluency – Fluency consist of different factors, firstly it is concerned with the ability of reading,
and how fluent a student in reading, like – how fast they can read any topic. Apart from this
another thing is that how fast a student may decode or analyse new vocabulary so that they can
understand the meaning of any word or sentence.
Set reading goals – this is one of the simplest way to enhance the reading skills, set own reading
goals, it will help the student to lean more things in less time. It will also develop knowledge of
vocabulary which will assist the student to make clear understanding between the things they
read and with their own perspective basically they can relate both. For example student can set
reading goal that they need to learn the different vocabulary of business management or
marketing, so that it will help them in their academics s well. Except this, with the help of
reading they may get familiar with the new words.

This will reduces the difficulty level and they will easily understand the meaning of difficult
words. Thus their reading skills and ability will increase.
Get the right book- to improve their reading skill it is very necessary that the student read the
correct book, if they are standing t the beginning level then they should not get the books which
have uses high level of vocabulary, phrases and idioms then it will be difficult for students to
grab the meaning of sentence, and it my waste their valuable time (O’Brien and et. al, 2018). So
it is very necessary that the students read the correct book. Student should get those books in
which they can understand the 90% of the words without taking help from others.
Consult with teacher – to increase the reading ability it is another strategy that after finishing
any book they should consult it with their teacher wherever they face any kind of difficulty. So
that they may guide them well, or suggest them some good books which helps the students to
enhance their reading ability. Besides this, student may ask any word or sentence in which they
are facing any issue or doubt so that they can learn better. By consulting with teacher, they do
not have to struggle with difficult words and this will save the valuable time of students.
Reread to get fluency – once the student finish any book or chapter, after sometime they should
again read them by doing so they will be able to find out their own mistakes apart from this, it
will also save their time. For example- when they read any book for the first time it may take 2
hours to compete but when they read the same book on the second time, they will finish that
within an hour’s, so by doing this, they may increase their reading skill and also they will get
fluency and speed as well which will help them in their academics.
Participate in library reading programs – most of the famous libraries provide different
reading competitions on the weekends and especially on vacations. The main motive of such
activities to provide a platform to the students so that they can learn by seeing others and also it
will increase their capacity as well.
Check out different reading material - It is another aspect which can be considered to enhance
the reading ability of the students (Forzani, 2018). They may check out the different material
from the online websites, e-books , novels and e- newspaper as well so that instead of getting
stuck with one book or novel they may get ample of learning opportunity when they access the
different material, by reading different books and newspaper they may get different knowledge
from different books and journals for example if the student want to grab the knowledge of

business or market they may read the e-newspaper by reading different books and journals their
reading skill may get increase .
Read in portion - this is the another strategy to increase the reading skill, instead of reading
long and complex paragraphs, divide them in small portions and small segments, by doing so
students will easily understand the meaning of each and every sentence and it will be helpful for
them to understand the things in deep, apart from this,when the student get the reading skill and
they can read things fast and with fluency, this will increase their confidence as well and the will
get success in their academics and in their future career as well (Bao and et. al, 2020).
Questioning – to improve the reading ability it is must that their teacher must ask questions from
students when they read any new topic or book, with the help of this strategy student will learn
the things and remember things for long. With the help of this strategy, students will just not read
the book o0r novel but also they will remember the things for long which they have read.
So these are some strategies through which the students may increase their reading ability and
skill.
2. Suggestions to improve the written skill
Written skill is one of the important aspect for everyone but it is more important for
students (Deep, 2021). Writing is known to be the base on which the entire work of students get
judged. With the help of written skill student may share their ideas, views and suggestions.
There are some strategies through which students may improve their written skills-
Try to build a sentence from given word
To improve the written skill of students, their teacher or parents must give them a word
and tell them to make a sentence by using that particular word by doing this, students will get to
understand the meaning of that particular word, apart from this, their written skills will increase
along with this they will become creative as well about how to use different words to frame the
sentence in an appropriate word which provide some meaning as well.
Start to write paragraph
To enhance the writing skills, students must put more emphasis of writing in paragraph
so that they can use more words in a single paragraph. But they have to ensure that they don't use
too long sentence in the paragraph, sentence must be short, clear and precise so that anyone can
read them and easily get the meaning , like – what the student wants to say (Setiyowati and et.al,
2020). To write any paragraph, teacher and parents should give a topic to the students like –

festival. So festival is a topic which is being given to the students to jot down a paragraph on it ,
so that they learn all the vocabulary , words and phrases which is related to festival thus, their
knowledge will get increase and also their writing skill will increase.
Write a daily dairy
it will be helpful for the students if they get a habit of writing a diary on daily basis. With
the help of diary they may share their personal experience whether they are happy or not. If they
write the things on daily basis it will increase their written skill and they will be able to share
their personal views and expression apart from this, they will jot down all their personal
experience.
Learn new words on daily basis
It is the responsibility of teacher to let the student know the value and importance of
dictionary and how with the help of dictionary they may learn new words and thus will help
them to learn the basic meaning of new words (Hidayati and et. al, 2018). Apart from this, they
may use such words in their written work so their written work will look more attractive, and
reader also get familiar with those words.
Join a seminar or workshop
There are various seminars and workshops held whose main motive is to let the students
aware about the importance of good written skill how they can get good grades in their academic
by good written skill apart from this, written skill can be a characteristics of them which will
make the students different from others, apart from this, such workshops and seminars will give
valuable tips and suggestions to students and by following them they can enhance their written
skill, so joining a workshop will increase the written skill of students.
Dissect those writing which admires
Some students are habitual of of reading blog post of some authors and writers, and they
read such blogs on daily basis (Netti and et. al, 2019). This can help then students to increase
their reading skills, to improve writing skill just get a print of such blog then take a pen and
underwrite those words and phrases which admires that student and start jotting down in their
own language about whatever they read and learn from the blog, this will help them to enhance
their written skill.
Don't over explain

It is one of the precaution which the student must make sure when they write anything
like – they should not over explain anything , so before writing anything they should organise
their thoughts and at the time of writing the things they must know what should they write or
what not, if they write the same thing again and again, this will make their content boring and
reader will not show any interest in reading such articles apart from this it will not beneficial for
them in their academics as well , if they over write the things in their examination.
Don't use filler words
To improve the written skill, students do not use filler words, because such words bring
clutter tom the article and also decrease the impression of the entire article (Cade and et. al,
2018). Apart from this, students do not repeat the same words again and again this will reduce
the attractiveness of the article, and this will affect the student through their life if they get the
habit of rep[eating same words on again and again.
Brush up the basic
Before start writing on any topic it is must for the student to brush up the basic of the
topic this will assist them to write better and if they get the prior information about the topic this
will make their content more realistic and valuable.
Conclusion
After analysing the entire report, it is being concluded that this report speaks about the
reading and writing skill. This report shows the importance of reading and writing skills and how
st6udents can improve them by applying various strategies, apart from this, there are some
suggestions have been mentioned in this report and by following them students can improve their
written skills.
