Executive summary
This study discuses a debatable topic the “Minimum Wage Debate”. The topic is debatable as the
minimum wage has both its pros and cons. This study identifies some of the challenges being
faced by the employers from minimum wage. Decisions adopted to remain cost-effective in some
cases can hamper the stakeholders. As identified in this study, ‘layoffs’ during an economic
recession can elevate the unemployment rate of the country. This implies to an affected
economic state of a country. Considering the voice of the Wesfarmers’ chairman, the study also
recommends to reduce the company tax rate. This is being identified in this study as benefitting
for both the labour and capital.
