Executive summary
The aim of this report is to discuss about the strategies being initiated by Coles and Woolworths
in operating in the Australian retail industry. This report had also discussed about the structure of
the market where these two companies are operating. In addition, the competitive scenario is also
identified along with the different retailers operating in the same segment. The growth strategies
of Coles and Woolworths are also identified along with the pricing and non pricing strategies of
them. This report identified that Coles is initiating premium pricing strategy and Woolworths is
practicing market penetration pricing. It is recommended that Woolworths should introduce a
new sub brand in the market with premium positioning, which will help them to cater to larger
target segments.
