INTRODUCTION
Business environment refers to an aggregate of all sets of event that are happening in the
environment in which business operates. These events directly influence the activities and
operations to a great extent. Business environment is a combination of external and internal
factors that directly or indirectly impact the business (Bae and et. al., 2018). In this report,
Morrison’s is considered which is a supermarket chain based in United Kingdom. They are
fourth largest supermarket in the country and they have around 494 supermarkets running across
England. The report covers the different types are purpose of organization that are private,
voluntary and public sectors. Further the size and scope off different types of organizations are
also discussed. The relationship between different organizational functions is also critically
evaluated.

TASK 1
LO1 Explain the different types, size and scope of organisations.
The types of organisation are differentiated on the basis of their ownership, rules and
responsibilities in the society. There are several types of organisation on the basis of ownership,
these types are discussed below along with the legal structure of the company
Public sector organisation- this refers to the organisation that is partially or fully owned by
government bodies and the generated revenue comes under governments account. These
organisations generally operate for the welfare of the public at the minimal cost. These
organisations operate on the money that is raised through taxation, this helps the general public
to avail facilities at a minimal cost. These organisations provide services of different type which
consists of different services such as public education, health care, management etc. UK Sport is
a government agency which is responsible for investing in Paralympic and Olympic sporting
activities in the United Kingdom (Bila, 2020).
Purpose- The purpose of UK Sport is to set up sporting activities in United Kingdom through
which every person in UK can get educated regarding sports.
Legal structure- Within the public sector, there are several type of legal structures which are
further discussed below: Central government- The political authority that is central government manages the
organisation at national level. They have the controlling power on the organisation at a
unitary level. State Government- In this type of legal structure the control of the government over the
organisation is only at a state level.
 Statutory Corporation- The corporation are embodied through a special act within the
parliament or any other state legislative assembly referred to statutory corporation.
Private Sector Organisation- This sector of organisation is owned by private individuals or a
group whose main motive is to earn monetary gains and maximize the profits. The key purpose
of these organisations is to earn profit and maximize the margins (Crandall and et. al., 2017). In
this sector, Morrison’s is considered which is a UK base fourth largest supermarket chain. They
also offer a range of sporting goods in their product line.

Purpose- The purpose of Morrison’s is to increase their performance in the sporting goods and
discover the areas which can support the process of generating new potential customers in the
business.
Legal structure- The legal structure refers to the private sector organisation is further explained
below: Private Limited- These type of organisation has their own set of legitimate personality
and are further considered separate from the owners. Limited partnership- This type of organisation has their ownership divided between two
set of entities or people. These partners are responsible and obligated for any type of
gains or losses that may occur in the business model.
 Limited liability partnership- This type states that the liabilities of the partners are
subjective and limited in the proportion of investment that they have made in the
business.
Voluntary organisation- These organisations refer to the businesses that has a motive of
providing social welfare to the general public. These organisations exist in the environment to
drive some set of purpose and deliver the services to the customers who need it (Drumm and et.
al., 2020). The purpose of the organisation is to offer voluntary services as well as economic and
social status throughout the world. Sport 4 Life is selected for this project which organisation
was founded by ESPNW and Women’s sport foundation.
Purpose- The purpose of the organisation is to provide opportunities to young people regarding
the sports activities. The people who fall under the bracket of 11-29 years are supported so that
they can ace the sporting activities.
Legal Structure- Voluntary organisation has a set of legal structure which is further discussed
below: Company limited by guarantee- An organization without any stakeholder and owner by
the members pay formal charges when the company gets wounded up in the terms as a
company is limited by guarantee. Unincorporated association- This type of association is when there are two or more set
of human resources who come together for a specific purpose.

 Trust- This is a lawful relationship which consists of valid title to possessions invested to
a lawful entity or person with trustee duty to handle the usage for other benefits which
exist in the trust.

they link to organisational structure.
SWOT analysis for internal environment
Strengths- The strengths are considered as important capabilities and competencies of a
company. Strengths of UK sports company are human resource management and its top level
management which helps in increasing business strength. Human resource management helps the
business entity to develop competitive growth and maintain all the employees in a precise
manner.
Weaknesses- In the functioning of a business entity, weaknesses are considered as
important part of a business. The main weaknesses of UK sports company includes research and
development department which helps in development of systematic growth at the marketplace
Opportunities- Growth and expansion at the marketplace are two major opportunities
available to company. It is key role of a business entity to develop focused approach in dealing
with key opportunities at the marketplace.
Threats- Threats are risky elements which are associated with a business and impact on
its functioning and working. The major threat for UK sports is its competitor companies which
are involved in selling sports based products and services.
PEST analysis for external environment
Political factors- The political factors play a major role in development of a business
entity in order to achieve key goals and objectives. Political factors includes norms and
regulations developed by government in order to control business organisations in the country.
Recently BREXIT decision of UK government has impacted on functioning of business
organisations in a negative manner.
Economic factors- The economic factors are considered as key factors which are related
to inflation, deflation and recession in order to develop various economic policies. The economic
factors also include primary focus on national income and gross domestic product and key
policies of UK government to control money supply.

Social factors- The social factors are considered as major factors which are related to
culture and traditions of the society. It is main role of a business like UK sports to develop
perfect approach in dealing with the social factors to improve its internal environment.
Technological factors- The technological factors are related to the development and
circulation of information and technology. It is main function of a business to focus on
implementation of best practices related to IT in order to gain desired success. The UK sports
also takes support of customer relationship management and management information system to
develop systematic approach at the marketplace.

Public sector organisation
The vision of the UK sports is to build a strong foundation for creating a stronger and
sustainable high performance system that has potential of supporting British athletes to win
Olympic and Paralympic medals in future (Fredericq and et. al., 2019).
Objectives: the company has key objective to partnership with the leading sports in the UK for
the world class success. This objective of company involves partnership with sporting
organisations in order to deliver medals in UK.
Stakeholders: the strategic partners, government agencies, Managers, financial experts are the
key stakeholders of the UK sports.
Private sector organisation
Size and scope: Morrisons is the large size retailer with strength of approximately 110,000
employees. The company has customer base of 11 million each week. The company has 497
stores all across the world.
Products and services: the Morrisions is the supermarket that offers Food and drinks, clothing,
florist, petrol, books, home-ware and many other daily home essentials in its stores. The
company has range of 400 products in its product portfolio.
Mission and vision
The mission of the Morrison's is to utilize their experience and design innovation in order
to offer flexible and responsive alternatives to the packaging industry (Galvin, 2020).

The vision of the company is to produce and provide food that all the customers and
colleagues are proud of, everyone's efforts have worth so that more and more people can access
and afford and enjoy eating well.
Objectives: the company has objective of making healthy, low price and easily available food
for every category of customers. The company also has objective to produce healthier food
products that are low in sugar, oil, fat, salt and calories.
Stakeholders: under the stakeholders of the Morrisons that has some stake in company's
decision making and finances are Owners, employees, customers, competitors and suppliers.
Voluntary sector organisation
Size and scope: Sports 4 Life employs 11-50 people. The scope of the organisation is to help
young people get better education, training and jobs through sports-themed personal
development.
Products and services
Services offered by Sports 4 life include improving health, providing education and
training, developing skills, changing behaviour and more.
Mission and vision
The mission of Sport 4 Life is proud to offer opportunity for young people aged from the
11-29 to prepare for or training by enhancing the employability and key life skills with the aid of
sports- themed mentoring and training services (Gao and et. al., 2018).
The company has vision to that we believe in a degree of playing field on which al the
young youth has a opportunities to build a better future for themselves.

interrelationship with external macro factors.
Organisational functions are the operations that are carried within the business under the
different departments. The organisational structure is the framework under which activities of the
business are categorized, organised and structured for attaining the common organisational goal.
The purpose of creating the organisational structure is to coordinate the operations of the
company with the workforce(Masama, 2018). Within Morrisons the company has been following

the divisional organisation structure. In this type of organisation structure the company divides
workforce into the small divisions and each division has different functions to perform.
PRODUCTION AND HUMAN RESOURCE
Within Morrisons the production department of the company has function to produce the
food products and other grocery items for which company coordinate with the human resource to
recruit the talent employees that are innovative and can support the company in producing
innovative products. The human resource department support the company by evaluating the
workforce performance in order to improve the productivity in the production department.
Marketing and finance department
In Morrisons the function of marketing department is to advertise and promote the
products and services of the company in the target market. The finance department has role of
managing the finances and budgets of the company the finance department coordinate with the
marketing department in providing funds and budget for the marketing activities and campaigns.
The marketing department help finance department with doing research on financial of the other
department to manage the funds of the company (Nuapia and et. al., 2020).
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is essential for a business entity to develop systematic approach by following certain
recommendations. The main recommendations and their application will help UK sports to gain
competitive growth at the marketplace. This approach will also help companies to deliver best
marketplace values. The key recommendations for UK sports company are mentioned below:
 The company should hire IT experts and professionals in order to increase the business
strength according to the contemporary business environment.
 UK sports company should take assistance of top level and strategic management in order
to increase its planning frameworks and policies.
 The company should focus on development of its major departments like marketing,
human resource, finance management and operations management in order to increase
revenue and profitability.
 UK sports company should also develop a focused approach in fulfilment of wants and
needs of employees and customer to conduct ethical business at the marketplace.

CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that in the business and business environment there
are three major types of organisations i.e. public, private and voluntary. The report concludes
that each type of organisation has different legal structure, purpose of business and also the sizes
of the businesses also differs. It is evaluated that purpose of the public sector organisation is to
serve the public and also under the legal permission of government. Thus different types of
organisations have different mission and vision. There is huge importance of organisational
functions and in organisation there are different functions such as finance, Human resource,
marketing and much more and all are interrelated to each other to meet the organisational
objectives.
