Ineffective Communication in Nursing Practice: Strategies and Skills for Therapeutic Communication_2

INTRODUCTION
Ineffective communication is the barriers to effective communication. In this communication, the
people are not able to understand the language and their may happen that it creates
misunderstanding and the wrong assumptions of the information (Shadadi and et.al., (2018). It is
very important to use effective communication to avoid these problems. This assessment project
will analyse the case study which has ineffective communication between the nurse and the
injured boy. Along with this, it will also include the strategies and skills which are required in
the therapeutic communication as well as the inclusion of cultural awareness and self-awareness
of therapeutic communications.
MAIN BODY
Analysis of ineffective communication between the individuals in the scenario-
Ineffective communication is that in which there is no proper use of the language. There is lack
of enthusiasm, interrupting between the communication, indirectness of the information, close-
minded interactions, lack of clarity and whining and complaining. It is very important to use
proper language for better communication and for avoiding the misunderstandings between the
people. Ineffective communication leads to the confusion, frustration, conflicts and low morale
of the people (Magadze, Chetty & Nkhwashu, (2022). In this case study, Toby is the patient and
his leg has been injured so for this a nurse is taking care of him. He doesn’t talk properly to the
nurse as when nurse found that he was standing beside his bed in spite of she told Toby not to do
that and when nurse told that it can affect the limbs Toby didn’t talk in a proper way. And the
second incident was when she said that he must not do this before the surgery at that time also he
talks much rudely with the nurse. This shows that there was ineffective communication between
the nurse and the patient.
Toby must talk in a better way with the nurse as she is taking care of him and he was not using
proper language to talk with the nurse.
