INTRODUCTION
Ineffective communication is the barriers to effective communication. In this communication, the
people are not able to understand the language and their may happen that it creates
misunderstanding and the wrong assumptions of the information (Shadadi and et.al., (2018). It is
very important to use effective communication to avoid these problems. This assessment project
will analyse the case study which has ineffective communication between the nurse and the
injured boy. Along with this, it will also include the strategies and skills which are required in
the therapeutic communication as well as the inclusion of cultural awareness and self-awareness
of therapeutic communications.
MAIN BODY
Analysis of ineffective communication between the individuals in the scenario-
Ineffective communication is that in which there is no proper use of the language. There is lack
of enthusiasm, interrupting between the communication, indirectness of the information, close-
minded interactions, lack of clarity and whining and complaining. It is very important to use
proper language for better communication and for avoiding the misunderstandings between the
people. Ineffective communication leads to the confusion, frustration, conflicts and low morale
of the people (Magadze, Chetty & Nkhwashu, (2022). In this case study, Toby is the patient and
his leg has been injured so for this a nurse is taking care of him. He doesn’t talk properly to the
nurse as when nurse found that he was standing beside his bed in spite of she told Toby not to do
that and when nurse told that it can affect the limbs Toby didn’t talk in a proper way. And the
second incident was when she said that he must not do this before the surgery at that time also he
talks much rudely with the nurse. This shows that there was ineffective communication between
the nurse and the patient.
Toby must talk in a better way with the nurse as she is taking care of him and he was not using
proper language to talk with the nurse.

patients along with maintains the professional distance with the patients. The main purpose of
using this communication by the nurses as it helps the nurses to build the trust with the patients
and also ensures that the patients and nurses efficiently collaborate with each other. This also
involves effectively caring the patients with the physical and emotional wellness (Arnold &
Boggs, (2019).
Using the communication strategies that helps the healthcare professionals in meeting both the
clinical and emotional needs of the patients. The most effective strategy is making personal
connections, this strategy will help me to maintain the strong relationship between the patients
and the nurse. In this case study, effective communication with the patients will help the nurse to
take proper care of the patient. Remaining neutral in the response of the client’s words and
actions, becoming comfortable with moments of the silence and using positive body language for
demonstrating the care of the Toby.
Skills that supports the therapeutic communication skills are addressing the emotions first,
encouraging the communication, using active listening, practising silence and seeking the
clarification. Having these skills will help the nurse in effective communications with the Toby
and will help ion avoiding such incidents happened in the case study(Fernández‐Gutiérrez, M.,
and et.al., (2018).

written communication skills plays the vital role in improving the health outcomes of the
patients, fostering relationships with the co-workers as well as with the patient’s family
(McCorry & Mason, (2020). The literacy skills such as digital literacy also requires effective
communication skills which means sending information through mails and massages. Nurses
who takes much time to listen and understand the problems takes much time then they can better
address the issues which arises. Nurses must develop themselves in communication skills as it
directly impacts the results of the patients. It is very necessary for the nurses to communicate
things properly and in proper and easy language so that the patients can understand them easily.
