TITLE To analyse the influence of Green supply chain management in the relation to UK Military supply chain. INTRODUCTION Green supply chain management is considered as a set of managerial practices which integrate environmental conflicts and issues into supply chain management. The implementation of supply chain management needs to be appropriateas it provides a way to attain competitive edge through developing the environmental sustainability of an organisation (Christopher, 2016).A military or an armed force is refers as a professional organisation which is formally authorized through a sovereign state to use lethal or forces and weapons to support the interests of the state. The typically consists of various branches like an Army, Navy, Air force, and in some certain countries the Marines and Coast Guard. United Kingdom is the one of the most popular country that has attained an unparalleled level of efficiency and responsiveness in its sustainment and logistics activities. The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) is undergoing major transformation by the focus on outsourcing non-military elements of logistics delivery and supply chain management to attain the advantages from decades of industry experience. Using modern information systems to underpin this transformation will help to deliver the goal of an effective support chain which allows the military to do what is best for their sustainability (Mangan, Lalwani and Lalwani, 2016). Green supply chain management and sustainability has been an ever developing area of research. Green supply chain management has a huge influence on the UK Military as it helps in providing adequate logistic facilities and services to strengthen the force. In the modern scenario the society is increasingly becomes aware from the global warming and environmental issues and these has huge influence on the environment and humans life. In the military segment the management of supply chain is required as it is essential for the military department to provide appropriate facilities to their armed forces in respect to strengthen their power and ability. Significance of the Report The present research is based on the analysis of identifying the influence of green supply chain management in relation to the UK military supply chain (Sodhi, Son and Tang, 2012). Supply chain management is an essential aspect which has a huge importance in the supply and delivery of goods and services from one place to another. United Kingdom has overseas military 1

bases which enables the British Armed Forces to conduct expeditionary warfare. As the UK has large number of military bases so it is essential for the government or its body to provide appropriate resources, equipments, food, cloths, ammunition, explosives and armoured vehicles as tomanaging the strength of military. Logistics and transportation caused various kind of environmental issues which has direct influence on the health condition of humans. Moreover green supply chain management is effective in providing environmental friendly services to the individuals (Kurien and Qureshi, 2011). The specified area of study is based on two principle interest, the green supply chain management and second one is, its relation to the UK military supply chain. Green supply chain management is effective in managing the supply operations throughkeepinginmindtheenvironmentalaspects.Thisstudyhelpsin developing the knowledge base of learner in the area of green supply chain management in relation to the UK military supply chain. This also plays effective for an individual to use their knowledge in the area of logistic and transportation as to reaching at potential growth and development. Research Aim This considered to be the most essential element as it helps in providing a proper direction to the investigator to implement the research activities in right direction. The potential aim of the research is toanalyse the influence of Green supply chain management in the relation to UK Military supply chain. Research Objectives To identify the concept of green supply chain management. To evaluate the importance of supply chain management for the UK MIlitary. To determine the impact of green supply chain management in the context of UK Military supply chain. Research Questions What is the concept of green supply chain management? What are the importance of supply chain management for the UK Military? What is the impact of green supply chain management in the context of UK Military supply chain? 2
Literature Review Green supply chain management is defined as the integrating environmental perspective or thinking into supply chain management, involving product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing processes, delivery of the final goods as well as end of life management of the goods after its useful life. As per the opinion of Martin Murray public become more aware of the environmental issues and global warming. Green Supply Chain Management is refers as thedelivery of products and services from suppliers, manufacturers to end customers through material flow, information flow and cash flow in the context of environment. UK has overseas military bases that has huge influence on the growth and development of country. It is essential for UK Government to provide proper facilities to the armed forces which are based on different geographical areas. Thus it is essential to maintain the strength of the military so that conflicts regrading war etc. are managed in appropriate manner (Hines, 2012).Military and commercial readiness can be analysed as the optimization of available resources to operate in a possible unforeseen event. In this sense, readiness can be determined as situational management of an event. Time, cost, and quality are considered to be the most crucial element to measuring situational logistics management. A thorough assessment of supplies, resources, and manpower would required to be matched with the needs of the unforeseen event under rush conditions. Appropriate implementation of supply chain management is effective for proper delivery of products and services to the final users. Army of UK has reviews acquisition, maintenance and fuel costs that are associated with conventional and hybrid vehicles. Supply chain management is effective in minimising the extra cost related with fuel, tax etc. as this is appropriate in maintaining the cost of supply chain. The government of UK has majorly concern on using Green supply chain management system as to reducing the chance of environmental harm and keep the environment safe from the pollution etc.Green supply chain management is emphasis on managing the proper flow of data and equipments in respect to providing environmental friendly services to the individuals. The military of UK has recently bums approximately 1 billion litres of fuel per year and this should be controlled as to maintaining the sustainability of resources. The United Kingdom has deployed military forces overseas at regular basis over the last 20 years, for a range of actions involving peacekeeping missions, training exercises, and combat operations. Currently the United Kingdom’s major operational commitment is in Afghanistan (Operation HERRICK), with significant forces anticipated to 3
remain deployed until the year of 2015. supporting military operations needs intensive logistical contribution. The clothings, weapons, food, fuel, ammunitions and other equipments required by the military personnel have to be analysed, requested, purchased, stored, transported and distributed to where these are required. The present budgetary environment needs that the department of defence make the most appropriate use of all its resources such as money, personnel and time in order to decreasing and improving the outcome. Research Methodology ThepresentresearchisbasedonanalysingtheinfluenceofGreensupplychain management in the relation to UK Military supply chain. As this research is mainly conducted forgatheringappropriateknowledgeinimprovisingtheaccessofgreensupplychain management within the military of UK. A research design is the set of methods and procedures that are used in gathering and analysing measures of the variables that are specified in the research issue. A research is either qualitative or quantitative in nature and the selection of research type is based on the data that are accumulated by the investigator to carry out the research in right direction. The present research is based on qualitative analysis as in this accumulated data is based on qualitative means which provides a theoretical framework by analysing the variables of the research. In this investigation descriptive research design has to be taken into proper action as it is effective in conducting in-depth research that is based on case study or survey analysis. This is also effective for providing relevant information through exploring the analysis of qualitative research (Gummesson, 2011). Research approach is also considered as the essential element of methodology which provides a clear plan and procedure as to implement the activities in right direction. In this particular research work inductive approach has been used by the researcher as to drawing reliable and valid outcome through analysing the qualitative aspects of the research. In a research work data and information are the key element thathashugeinfluenceoncarryouttheresearchworkinappropriatedirection.Inan investigation data has to be gathered through primary as well as secondary sources of data collection. Primary source is effective in administrating the section of data analysis through conducting a survey as to gathering real data with appropriate facts and figures. On the other side secondary source are effective in conducting literature review in effective manner through gathering data and information by books, journals and articles etc. In this random sampling technique will be used by the researcher as in this data is being gathered through questionnaire 4
