Problem
Communication is one of the major problem in the work force. It is very important for
the leaders to maintain a positive work environment, which is founded on the effective
communication. However, the situation is very poor because 69% of managers are not are not
comfortable communicating with the employees in general (Ting-Toomey & Dorjee 2018).
They tend to rely on the formal communication and tend to ignore the informal style
communication (Whelan, 2016). This is because communication in the workplace assures the
high–performance culture. According to the Interact survey conducted by Harris Poll, 69% of
the Managers felt they are uncomfortable communicating with employees. Over a majority of
37% of the mangers admitted that they are uncomfortable to give direct feedback to the
employee’s performance (fig.1).

Lack of interest in informal communication can render an atmosphere of loneliness
and sense of passive reality. This kind of atmosphere provides a sad cyclical existence- room
to office and office to home (Whelan, 2016). Thus, the employees remain demotivated and

the productivity shatters. Since I am a regional manager of the organization, I happen to visit
in Sydney stores and I find there is a lot of problem between employees and managers (Jandt,
2017). The core of the problem is lack of importance given to informal communication. This
kind of atmosphere is also fore bringer of pervasive loneliness and thus can shatter the
business forever. Therefore, it is important to solve the problem.
Why is it important to solve
Informal commination refers to the casual communication between co-workers in the
workplace. Thus it plays an important role in maintain the effective relationship within the
work sphere. It is important to solve because it creates confusion and misunderstanding in the
work place (Whelan, 2016). Collective collaboration to work against these negative elements
will give a purpose that will be beneficial for both the end. This also hones up the relationship
to build a positive company culture and generate accountability among the employees.
Improving on communication skill will distinguish good leader from great one. This step is a
fundamental step to have a committed and productive workforce.
Solutions
Who
Informal communication is pervasive and there is no single party to blame for this. In
a business, each segment plays an important role and for eliminating any problem,
collaboration is needed from every segment. The mangers as well the employees are
responsible for the business operations , however, the accountability of the mangers are
greater because the share of responsibility is more on their side.
What
There are several ways and medium through which the mangers can encourage the
employees to eliminate the nefarious nature of informal communication (Alaceva & Rusu
2015). Either identify the pattern of informal communication or try to do away with the
