Information System in Business
the business information system is a group of related methods which uses Information
Technology structure within a business organization to produce the required information.
Information systems in business are to facilitates the decision-making process in the company
generally through the people concerned with the activities of an enterprise during the operations
that aim in the achievement of business goals. The data from the business environment and the
business processes provide the input for the business information system among other resources
of the IT structure
Chapter
Chapter one of the Management of Information System book highlights the vital policies
of the information which describes the roles, trends and composition of the information systems.
The primary roles of the information system in the business is enhancing the enterprise
operations and procedures, support the process of making decisions which exists between the
managers and the and the employees and finally support the plans that help the business stay
competitive. The trends in the system of the organization have evolved over a while (O'Brien &
Marakas, 2006). In the 1950s, the purpose of the information system was to processing of the
transactions, electronic data processing, accounting and keeping of records. These roles were
followed by other additional tasks such as processing of the information which lead to the rise of
the Management Information System(MIS). Currently, the trend has changed, and the primary
role of the information system has also changed to perform Business Intelligence (BI) which is
the use of technological techniques in business that aim at collection and processing information
to be used in critical business decisions according to (O'Brien & Marakas, 2006).
