AI Summary
This report delves into the data management practices of the Google Play Store, examining how data is stored, utilized, and analyzed to serve users. It highlights the use of Bigtable for large-scale data management and identifies a critical gap: the lack of thorough application verification, which leads to the presence of potentially malicious applications. The report proposes implementing information system (IS) techniques to verify application authenticity, ensuring user safety and reducing the prevalence of fake or harmful applications. It contrasts current techniques, such as Google Play Awards and application approvals, with the proposed IS solution, which focuses on detecting malicious activities. Finally, the report recommends a strategic approach to address the identified gap, including IS technology implementation and ongoing monitoring of the strategy's effectiveness, supported by references to relevant literature.

Investigate the management of data in a business (google play store)
Data is one of the main foundation of google play store. It stores, utilises, analyses and
displays its data as per the requirements of their users. It not only stores data and information
related to the applications stored within it but it also stores information of their users, their
preferences, application liked and disliked by them and based on this information they display
applications that can be liked by their users (Price and Shanks, 2016). They use Bigtable as their
data management system which is designed on a very large scale in order to provide services to
their users.
Gap to be addressed in the business.
Gap addressed within their business is that they do not analyse the authenticity of the
applications that are sold by them. In other words anyone can sell any kind of application on
Google play store without verifying it. There is no verification of application of certification.
Due to this many people become pray of these fake applications. Other than this, due to this gap
many times users come across malicious applications present on google. It is one of the main and
biggest gap that is required to be addressed by google play store.
Identify the best IS technique to introduce in order to address the topic’s gap
IS technique that can be used to address this gap is using an information system that will
verify the authenticity of the application, whether it is safe to be used or not, whether it consist of
any kind of malicious activity or not, whether it is authentic not a fake application or not
(Dumais and et.al., 2016). This will help Google play store to reduce number of fake applications
and their malicious activities as well. If the application is safe to be used then they should
provide them with a certificate of authenticity.
Familiarise with current techniques used
Current technique used by google is that they provide with google play awards to all the
applications that are extremely good to be used. They have categorised their award categories
based on popularity of the applications, features of the application etc. Other than this google
also provide approvals to the applications before they can get published. These approvals help in
checking whether the application exploit children, engage violence, harassment, bullying, illegal
activities and many more but do not check any kind of malicious activities. If google finds any of
the above reason to be true then they ban the application.

Introduce a good strategy for the business solution
In order to introduce good strategy for the business solution is to identify the main problem
associated which is that google play store fail to identify whether the application is malicious or
not. Then implement the IS technology that is required to be implemented which will help them
address the gap identified. Then lastly monitoring of the strategy and technology can be done.
