INTRODUCTION
Case of Flood at the Australian National University (ANU) has been analysed in this report. The flood
has caused serious damage to the library books and Redev machinery. The books have been lost and
the heavy equipments have been submerged according to the report. The cost of the damage may
be high due to loss of infrastructure. Here several issues have been generated such as rescheduling
of the classes, exams and events that may cause the extension of the course duration. This report
contains the rich picture of the problems, impact and the root. CATWOE technique of Soft System
Methodology has been used for the analysis of the prevention and measures generated for the case.
Later the draft diagram of root definition of the proposed solution will be developed which will used
for the development of the conceptual model.

explains the firstly about the effect on building infrastructure and how it gets affected by electrical
system and other attached equipments. The college operations are also affected such as regular
classes, exams and other events. The affect is also on the proper schedule of classes that directly
impacts the university student’s scores and high scores. This case has made the authorities to
reschedule all the classes, exams and events. The loss of books and other study resources also
effects the students study and extend the yearly duration of the course sessions.

C. CATWOE ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM
CATWOE is the technique used for the analysis of the problem used in soft system methodology. This
approach helps in finding the possible solutions or the prevention measures for the issues that has
been extracted from the case study of the flood case. In this methodology, C stands for customer
which has direct impact of the case arise (Basden and Wood-Harper, 2006). They are recognised in
the form of the positive and negative or in the other hand they can be treated as the victims of the
issues. Secondly, ‘A’ Stands for the actors who are responsible for the doing the activities at the
company which leads to the transformation of the systems (Karve, 2010). Thirdly, T stands for the

the system for prevention of such insurance policy which will help in recovering the financial issues

This report has been developed in context to the Australian National University or ANU where
