1. Introduction to IT at the company
The foremost determination of the paper is to focus on the themes and view which can be
obtained from the interview of Damian Smith who is the head of the IT department of England
and Wales Cricket Board. This essay will be investigating the view and themes which are
mentioned by the IT director (Thomas et al. 2017). CIO's view strategy and approach will be
critically analyzed in this paper as well, the negatives and positive about the themes will be also
mentioned in this essay. This essay will be also focusing on the issues of the IT department of
England and Wales Cricket Board which was not addressed by Damian Smith (Wright 2015).
The essay will be also suggesting about the future strategy and direction which should be taken
by CIO of this organization.

analysis can be very much helpful regarding all the decision making during the game. The prime
advantage of these IT systems is that it helps in removing the inaccuracies of the game. The
health condition of the crickets as well as the backend staffs can be managed using the internal
IT systems as well.

with the help of this important business decision. However, there are both positive and negatives
associated with this theme (Petrovic et al. 2017). The prime benefit of this theme is the increased
net profitability of the business as these systems will be helpful in attracting all the potential
cricket fans. Fan made parks can also use these technologies in order to improve their business.
The limitation associated with these technologies is the economic market conditions of England
and Wales as they are always dynamic in nature. The pricing of the facilities has to be pre-setted
in the first place before the tickets are available for the cricket fans.
2.2.3 Key enterprise applications
a. The key enterprise applications are introduced in most of the cricket stadiums in
England and Wales as it helps in accomplishing the organizational goal of ECB. All the
important business functions associated with each of the grounds considering their complexities

done with the help of this technology.

of the big data technology can be very much beneficial for the cricketers as well for the other
stakeholders of this business such as the operational managers of each of the cricket stadiums as
the board members are no longer interested in working with tools such as business intelligence.
The categorization of the raw data with the other data of cricket can be done with the help of this
technology as well (Dozier et al. 2016). The introduction of big data technology has both
positive and negative impact on the cricketing infrastructure of England and Wales. The main
advantages of this technology are that this technology is compatible with many other
technologies as well such as data mining, the predictive decision making of the cricket teams is
the other important benefit of this technology. The in-memory databases can be also managed
using this technology.
Delivering great results
a. The cricket fans of ECB are managed using the CRM (Customer Relationship
Management), the participants and the customer of this organization are managed using the CRM
(Cook 2017). The clients who are watching the game at home or in the stadium or trying to use
the resources of ECB for their personal activities can be significantly benefitted from the use of
this technology.

d. The strategy adopted by the CIO of ECB regarding the implementation of digital
technology can be very much important for this century-old cricket boards, as it will help them to
go through the continual changing process before the start of the biggest T20 tournament in
Europe (Arora et al. 2017). The discussion of the CIO suggests that everything is going as per
their plan. There are both positive and negative about the use of digital technology regarding
dealing with the continual change process (Clarke 2015). The main positive as that there are no
chances of error while applying the digital technologies whereas the main drawback of using
these technologies is the need of maintaining IT experts in each level of operations in ECB.
Missing Issues
There are lots of issues and problems which are not addressed by the CIO of this
organization such as the followings:
o Keeping up with the change: There are lots of issues associated with technologies like
hawkeye technology which are already been used in the county cricket matches of ECB
are not addressed by CIO.
o Lack of integration with new technologies: Compatibility issues of the technologies
which are discussed by the CIO was not addressed in the interview.

o Scaling issues: The designing of the technologies used in cricket was not also specified
by the CIO of ECB.
o Staff management: The issues of the workforce management software such as the
management of the travelling fans were also not addressed by the CIO of ECB.
o Calculation of the uncertainties of the business: There are lots of uncertainties
associated with the use of the digital technologies in the match such as the adverse
temperature conditions of England, these uncertainties were also not mentioned by the
CIO.
Future direction for CIO
The future strategies and directions which the CIO should be pursuing are discussed
below.
 The implementation of digital technologies should be based on professional IT
governance plan created by IT experts.
 The needs and requirements of both the regular as well as the travelling fans should be
considered while incorporating new digital technologies.
 Opinions from the fan base groups and the travelling plans must be considered before
implementing a change in the system.
 The threats to intellectual property must not be ignored by ECB.
 Cyber Security risk management team must be there in all the cricket grounds of ECB.
