INTRODUCTION The academic writing is known as educational writing. In academic writing all the rules and regulation of college or university are full filled by the student. The reference used in any study or report shows the sources which are used in collect the information of related topic. The brief is provided in report to mention the references in academic study report. The method of citation of references is explained in report (Dirgeyasa and Hum, 2017). The information is provided to use excel spread sheet to present budget. The method to use power point presentation is given in report. ASSESSMENT 1 Way to Use References and Perform Citation There are different kinds of referencing styles in academic writing which are APA style, MLA convention, Oxford style, Harvard style and Chicago style. Different convention uses different style to mention references in academic report. The Harvard style of referencing is also used in academic writing. The initial step to use referencing is to collect the relevant source of information. The sources which are used in academic writing are mentioned in the end of academic report. There are different rules are used in Harvard referencing style. In Harvard references are starts with the Sur name of author and then the initial of their name is mentioned. In condition of multiple author the names and initials are used after commas and “and”. If the number of author is more than three then the name of first author is written in start and for remaining author “et. al” is used. After the name of author the year of paper or book publication is written after comma. The name of paper, book or journal is written after the full stop. The name of book is written in italic form and each word starts with capital letter. The field of research is also considered in the reference (Babcock and Thonus, 2018). The page number of book or journal is also mentioned in the references which are source of information for academic report. Then after the page number the range of relative information is considered in the last of reference. It is essential to evaluate the use of primary and secondary source reference to support the reader. Avoid the plagiarism in the report is also an important thing. There are certain places where the books and journals are paraphrase, summarised and directly quoted needs citation of source. At the place where the citation needs in academic report should be identified to mark citation. The introduction of source is needed in report. It is important to give credit to those 1
authors and writers whose books, papers and journal are used as sources. The purpose of referencing is to provide facility to reader to read more information about topic if they need. The formatting of the referencing should be in right way. The use of citation and references style is based on the preference of college or university. In the report the data collected from different sources is written, but it is important to highlight different places in the report which are taken from books and journals. The citation represents the place where the particular book or journal is used. In the Harvard referencing the references are written in the end of sentence before full stop (Gardner and Davies, 2016). It could be anywhere in the report or any paragraph. The citation is consists of the Sur name of author and year of source publication. The initial of the author are not used in the citation. The year of book or journal publication is mentioned in the last of citation after comma. In the condition more than three authors Sur name of first author is mentioned and then the “and et. al.” is used to give credit to all authors. The references are important to mention in report. In academic writing the student took data or information from different sources. This sources could be book, paper presentation or journal. To give credit to those author citation is used. Referencing shows that the data and information written is originated from thought and work of others. The referencing also helps the reader to get more information of book or journal which is used in academic writing. The most important thing in referencing and citation is to maintain the format of particular referencing and citation style. 2

ASSESSMENT 2 Use of M S Excel In the assessment the Excel spread sheet is explained for the annual house budget. This annual budget is consists of total amount of expenses, budget planned for the expenses, actual cost of the particular goods and the left over amount for the purchased item. The special note is also mentioned in the report. For the table number one the total income of the person mentioned with details.In the first column the whole information of income is given. In second column the projected salary is mentioned. The difference between projected and actual salary is given in the third column. In the second raw the total income, total difference between actual and projected salary is given. In the last column the special note is given for the first table. The page break is 3
given after the first table. The second table is explaining the detail information of all expenses. The first column is stating name of product or service which was purchased during year. In the second column the predicted budget is given. In the third column difference between projected and actual cost is given. The fourth column is presenting left over cost of purchase. The last column the special note for each purchase is mentioned. In the last row total expenses, total of projected budget, total of actual cost is given in third column and last one is the left over amount which is difference of actual cost and projected cost. After this table in spread sheet the page break is used and next table is designed. In the third table the savings of year are mentioned. First column is for the product in which the money is saved (Amin, 2017). In second raw projected amount is written. The third column is providing actual cost of product and the fourth column is stating the left over amount. And in last column the special remark is provided for each product. This exercise is presenting the brief of annual budget of all year to manage all expenses. ASSESSMENT 3 Covered in PPT CONCLUSION This report is concluding the Harvard reference and citation styles. The use of Excel spread sheet is also explained in report. The annual house budget is used to utilise the features of M S spread sheets. The method to use M S power point presentation is explained in report. 4
