Abstract
The technologies of Virtual Reality (VR) has changed the way people viewed the technological
devices and their interaction with the world. The technologies have affected almost all the
industries, and one industry that has contributed the most in using the technologies of VR is the
medical industry. Medical education and healthcare centre uses the advanced technologies of VR
the most and has able to improve their treatment processes and education process. The VR
technologies have enabled 3D immersive display and have helped to understand human anatomy
the most which have never been before. The applications used for medical treatment are
improving the most and affects the medical care from learning anatomy to surgical technique.
VR also helps to manage the patient’s pain before and after the surgeries and helps in the
diagnosis process as well as in therapeutic approaches and psychological approaches. The virtual
reality in medical industry generates a 3D virtual world that enables easy interaction with the
devices and a virtual reality that is not possible with any other technologies. This report will state
the different approaches that Virtual reality presents to the medical industries and how VR has
emerged in the medical industry. There are different prospects of the medical industry which
uses the technologies of VR, and those are mentioned in this report. This report also shows
limitations that VR has on medical industries and the way VR can be used future to improve the

Introduction
In the last ten years, there has been remarkable growth in the healthcare sectors in most
of the societies, including advance in Medicine and an increased number of resources. The
systems in healthcare generate a wide amount of knowledge as well as information, unlike 30
years ago, and this presents a challenge for the health care professionals to work with such
information brokerage. This challenge is overcome using advanced technological tools that aid
the training and education of healthcare professionals. One such tool that is used in medical
sectors is virtual Reality (VR). The tools in VR provides the medical professionals rich, and
interactive visuals that help in better learning and doing (Dávideková et al., 2017). Health care is
the biggest adopters of tools of virtual Reality which are used in education and training, surgery
simulation, therapy sessions, phobia treatment and also provides robotic surgery to the medical
professionals. The professionals in healthcare can learn new skills and also can refresh their
existing skills using the tools of virtual reality. The new capabilities are learnt without causing
any issues to the patients.
From 2012, use of VR had incredible explosion for interest in the medical field. The
technology of VR has reached to an advanced point which has allowed VR experience of high
quality with reasonable price and is widely available to the customers (Lessick & Kraft, 2017).
VR is used in medical ground to manage chronic diseases and can also calm the patients from
painful surgeries. This particular technology is also helping children as well as adults having
ASD (Autism spectrum disorder). The technology of VR is used as a tool for increasing empathy
among medical students and medical professionals (Singh, 2018). VR technology is also used in
training sessions of medical professionals and is also used for teaching medical students. VR can
also mitigate the shortage of professionals in medical treatment.

The technology of VR provides innovative ways to take care of the patients and improve
medical procedures and improves the training process (Pillai & Mathew, 2019). This report
details the importance of Virtual Reality in the healthcare industries. The different section in this
report states the different aspect of VR in medical and also states the future of VR in the medical
field. There are also some limitations of VR in the medical field, which are discussed in this
report stating a possible solution for the limitations.

a. Concept of Virtual Reality
VR is defined as the three dimensional computer-generated systems that enable to
interact with computer devices. The systems of VR are mainly configured for displaying the
world that is computer-generated or includes a virtual environment (Cacho-Elizondo et al.,
2017). The virtual environment is created by changing the images continuously in a certain
orientation and because of the user. VR mainly uses video as well as audio to include the user in
the experience of an artificial environment that is shown in 3D and has 360 degrees of vision.
VR creates a digital environment that exchanges the real-world environment.
Virtual Reality includes the usage of computer technology for creating a particular
simulated environment. Computer technology is mainly used for creating the simulated
environment, and VR helps to user to get inside the virtual, unlike traditional user interfaces
(Akre et al., 2018). Virtual Reality immerses the user and enables the user to interact with the
virtual environment with 3D views. The computer system using Virtual Reality takes the user to
some other world which helps them to get into a different world which the users cannot mage

technologies. VR is mostly displayed on the head-mounted display, and it is done with input
tracking. The display of VR is split between the eyes of the user that creates a stereoscopic effect
in 3D along with stereo sound effect. This also includes the technology and an input tracking of
the technology. This creates an unbelievable experience to the users and allows them to explore
all virtual world that is being generated by the computer systems.

VR has been widely accepted with the medical community as the researchers, and the

of the computer processor and also has improved the graphics. With that, even the desktop

mixture of distraction as well as experimental therapies which helps the patients to learn about
the techniques in a structured way in and safe environment. The technology has been changing
and advancing rapidly, and it is decreasing the cost has made the technology of VR more popular
in all the sectors. VR can be run on laptops, on personal computers and desktops also have a low-
cost budget. The digitized images are used in the virtual world, which makes it possible for
