Some uses of innovation are as follow:
There are large number of ideas in an innovation funnel that are purposed in the market.
As for the new drink company need to develop a new strategy in their market. So frugal
innovation help company to reduce its cost in the process of manufacturing(Hall and et,
al., 2014).
With the help of frugal innovation company develop a flexible process by which
company easily make changes in the process of their new mixed fruit drink. As market is
very dynamic to understand. So frugal innovation help company to make their process
flexible.
Frugal innovation is a very complex process so the company need to monitor regular
change in the development process. Like for frugal innovation contain more number of
inputs. So company develop a process by which they effectively and efficiently input
process of frugal innovation.
P4 Explain developments in frugal innovation and provide examples of how it is used in an
organisational context.
Frugal innovation is concerned with bringing products, services and systems within the
reach of poor and emerging middle class customers. This process discover new business models,
assembles value chains, redesigns products for the purpose of serving customers who faces
extremely affordable constraints in a scalable and sustainable manner(Jolink and Nieste 2015). It
provides functional solutions through scarcity of resources from which needs of various people
can be fulfilled. In this, the main idea of the innovators is concerned with development of
products and services which fit in markets special needs and requirements and that were cheap
enough that every customer can afford it easily and effectively. This types of innovation is
considered by the company when there is scarcity of resources. It is seen as an outcome and as a
process as well. And the process is referred to as frugal engineering whereas the result or
outcome is referred to as frugal innovation. Example of frugal innovation the Moladi housing
technology compare the firms with a social inclusive that is Do more with less. As in African
countries housing is the most sensitive factor. So South Africa government affect support to
develop affordable houses for their country individuals. This opportunity is predict by Moladi

family and they implement a idea in which they developed a new technique to make wall instead
of making brick walls.
Frugal innovations are very important for the organisation because of the following
reasons :
Growth and cutting finances to cut down debt in developed economies which will
maximise demands for frugal products and services and frugal innovation processes.
Environmental constraints around climate, energy, water and other resources will
maximise demand for more frugal models of production and consumption.
New technology platforms are forcefully eliminating the cost of some forms of
innovation, creating huge, new opportunities for frugal innovators(Meissne and Vonortas
2017).
Protective for quickly ageing societies will require completely new approaches to health
and social care, including radically rethinking business models and value chains that are
apparent in some examples of successful frugal innovation.
Today’s quickest increasing markets are in developing and emerging economies where
demand for frugal products and services is high.
Therefore, the fruit flavoured essence drink company will also focus on frugal
innovation. In this, the company can use innovation so that cost can be cut and customer can
afford the innovative product easily. For this purpose, company will focus on bio degradable
cups which can be recycled and are also less expensive. Apart from this, the company will adopt
such means of promotional tools which are less expensive or need no money to promote new
product in the market. It can include, advertisements and promotions on social media sites like
Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc. This will be useful in cutting the cost for the company
which will eventually lead to the establishing lower budget for promotions.(Prabhu J 2017). The
company will also deal with wholesalers of fruits and curd so that they can get that at lesser price
and with better quality. With this, the company will be able to provide the essence at low price
that can be easily affordable by the people.
Commercialisation- It is the process of bringing new products in the market. It include
all the acts like production, marketing and sales to achieve the success for its new product and
service. It include all factors which is ideation phase and the process and to retain its
stakeholders.

P7 Tools used by the organisations for retaining the intellectual property.
Intellectual property is the right against the tangible property. This means it includes
various types of rights against the property and patents. These are governed by laws and
regulations imposed by the government. These rights are generally used to safeguard the interest
the of the owner of the property. These rights are generally used to safe the new invention from
being copied. This is because every type of market consist of various competitors which include
high risk of uncertainty and also have high chances of product getting copied by the competitors.
So to overcome this problem organisations are using intellectual property law(Williams 2013).
These laws are of various types some among them are discussed below-
Patent- This right helps the owner to save its product from being copied. This means
according to this right no person is allowed to manufacture or sell the same product during the
particular time period. It is illegal to copy the unique qualities of the product or service. There is
a proper procedure which must be followed by the organisation or investor for getting the patent

rights. In context to new product of Essence the management of the organisation can patent the
unique design of the bottle and patent can also be done for the manufacturing plant in which the
mixed fruit lassi will be manufactured. If the management of the organisation is successful in
doing this than the sale of the organisation can be increased after the launching of the new
product.
Trademark- It is the right against the unique symbol of the newly launched product. No
other company or individual is allowed to copy the same symbol of the product if the product has
its own trademark. It is the identification or some unique symbol which the the product different
from its competitors in the market. It will be considered illegal to use the sign or symbol of the
product. Essence can prepare a unique symbol of the new product for saving it from other
competitors in the market.
Copyright- It is very much essential for Essence to have the copyright against the product
as after this right no organisation will be allowed to produce the same product which will be
launched by Essence. It will also help in saving the financial and other resources of the
organisation. As after this right no individual will can reproduce the same product and must not
copy the uniqueness of the product. So Essence must have a copyright against the mixed fruit
lassi and other similar products.
Advantage of knowledge protection and intellectual tools.
Patent is a intellectual tool that is provided by government to the innovator of a product.
Like they provide monopoly to a product which provide for several years. While copyright
provide right to owner to cover the cost in which damage the profit right of the customer.
Trademark of a company or a product make a long term identity of a product.
Disadvantage of knowledge protection and intellectual tools.
Patents are not easy to purchase first it is a long time process to make a product. While it
is also increase the cost of the company. In other case copyright provide safety to idea only while
not the product. Sometimes popular trademark make a product identity so strong that customer
are not aware about the company.
Strength of the intellectual property:
There are so many limitation are present in the market like they provide superior rights to
the customer. Patent also provide more profits to the owner for a long term. With a copyright
essence drink easily register their product and it is also simple to develop identity for its new
Document Page
product. Trademark are unique and they develop an opportunity to charge premium price from
its customer.
Weakness of a intellectual property:
The major weakness in making a trademark is that it is essential for them to develop
mutual relation between customer and company. Like in case of essence drink they create a
trademark which show its product healthy. With copyright essence drink save its idea but not
process of a product. Patent protect the life of a product for several years but against this Essence
disclose all its recipes and ingredient to government authorities.
Effective and ineffectiveness of intellectual tools in case of Essence drink.
In the circumstances of Essence drink company management focus on intellectual tools.
As it help company to develop their product with more efficiency and effectiveness. So patent,
trademark and copyright make the product to develop in market that fulfil need and demand of
customer.

From the above report it is concluded that Innovation and invention are essential part of
the company. Business need to develop its existing products to retain their company for a longer
period. For the success of their new product company use frugal innovation as a tool. So they
control risk and increase their earnings.
