2INNOVATION AND IT IN THE SUPPLY CHAINAbstractKnowledge and information is the only key for any organization in manner to cope upwith competitive market and take its advantage. “Knowledge-as-possession” and “knowledge-as-practice” can be referred to the way of executing the knowledge gathered by the organizationrelated to its operational activities and efficiently using them for the enhancement of theperformance of the organization. This report is presents an explanation on these two school ofthoughts and comparison between the both. The research made on the theories presented bydifferent researches helps in finding that practicing knowledge as practice, or possession couldbe helpful in managing the supply chain in efficient and effective manner. On the other hand,Information Technology is playing a vital role in motivating the world towards digital world andcontributing in enhancing the business processes in all aspects. IT has helped in alternativesolutions those are possible in manner to manage the supply chain management in much efficientmanner. It can help in better decision-making process and accomplish competitive advantage tothe organization in manner to compete with the competitors. Supply chain is an important factorfor any organization in manner to be ahead from its competitors and implementing IT within theexisting system could be helpful in boosting the productivity and output of the company. How ITcan help in innovative supply chain has been discussed in this report.IntroductionThe purpose of this report is to present the objectives related to the “Knowledge-as-possession” and “knowledge-as-practice” and relating this school of knowledge with the supplychain management (Kulkarni, 2015). Wal-Mart has been chosen for the evaluating the factorsthose have been stated in this report. This report presents about the “Knowledge-as-possession”and “knowledge-as-practice” separately and then a comparison and evaluation has been proposed

Followingreport presents a thorough research on these knowledge schools relating with the organization.Besides that it can be stated that Wal-Mart is one of the leading retail companies in world withmore than 1600 retail stops around the world. An efficient and productive supply chain is amajor element for the growth of organization and implementing IT within the existing system ofthe organization could be the key for this organization in enhancing these systems (Gleghon &Harper, 2015). IT could be helpful in contributing a robust and innovative supply chain. The factors stated in the report related to these knowledge practices can play a crucialrole in managing innovations in supply chain of the Wal-Mart. This report focuses on supplychain management of Wal-Mart and the role of IT in motivating this system into more innovativeand productive supply chain management. This report presents research on how IT has beenadopted by Wal-Mart and impact of such implementation on the performance of theorganization. WalmartWal-Mart is a retail network of the stores that was founded by Sam Walton and currentlyoperating 6500 locations across the world with strength of 1.8 million employees. It is one of thelargest operators of the retail stores worldwide. The strategy for sustaining its position at the topcan be stated as it provides best quality services and merchandise at low and affordable price forthe customers (Huchzermeier, 2016). For managing such big network, an organization needs abetter supply chain for managing the business and productivity and it could be set as an examplefor the application of innovative supply chain.
