The main fundamental objectives of the master plan of the Brisbane Airport
Parallel Runway includes establishment of the airport strategic direction, setting
out the forecasts of the future of airport for the airlines as well as for the growth
of the passengers, outlining the development for extra uses of the site of the
airport, bringing out plans for a significant investment in operations, roads,
infrastructure of the aviation and terminals. It also involves demonstration of
the commitment community engagement and support, providing an update to
the strategy of the Airport Environment and the plan for Ground transport.
Brisbane’s new runway is considered to be as the largest construction project of
aviation in Australia. The work has been started in the year 2012 with several
major stages of construction and is planned for its open in the year 2020. After
being completed Brisbane is thought to have the best system of runway in the
world. The project is a full new structure delivering a number of benefits for
Brisbane, Queensland and Australia and will keep on continuing for doing so
after the year 2020. Currently the consultation of the stakeholders is underway
along with the establishment of several groups of reference with several
industrial and community representatives. The consultation of the public is to be
commenced in the middle of the year 2019 and the final draft of the submission
of the master plan is to be done to the federal government by the year 2020.
During the initial phase of construction in the 1980s the space which was
reserved for developing a parallel runway in the future by the government of
Australia when needed. This project by the Brisbane Airport Corporation has
partners like the BMD groups, contractors of CPB and McConnell Dowell
Constructors ( Aust.) Pty Ltd for delivering the new runway and comprises of
about 675 workers on the project during the peak time with about ninety
percent of the employees of the project living in South east Queensland. The
work is well planned and is thought to be done in two phases. First phase is the

phase of construction (Sept 2012- June2015) which includes the improvement
works on the ground and the second phase is the construction of the runway
system and infrastructure of the airfield. The master plan is well designed for
clearly stating the objectives for the Brisbane Airport’s future by proper
planning, appropriate factor forecasting of factors like passenger growth,
movements of aircrafts and traffic on-transport. The government of Australia
approved Brisbane Airport’s master plan in the year 2015. The new runway
which is going to be developed by the year 2020 has been estimating to create
more than 7000 new jobs and contribute an extra $5 billion in the yearly benefit
of economy to the region. This project will also lead to a bigger choice in the
destinations, airlines and the times of flight. This runway is going to be such an
amazing infrastructure which will allow the excessive continued growth of
Brisbane as well as the region and the nation of it. It will also enable the airport
of Brisbane to meet the community demands which it usually serves both for
now and for the generations in future.
As per the case study, it is noticed by me that there are several Australian
standards within the code of tendering. They are scope, application, definition,
ethics, tendering processes, principal obligations and obligations of the
tenderers. The standard scope specially sets out all the ethics as well as the
obligations of both the principal as well as the tenderers while tendering in the
industry of construction. The application standard is applied equally to the
principals, contractors, agents, suppliers, subcontractors and the professional
organizations.

Note: some of these readings are quite long. You are not expected to read
everything, rather to gain an overview and be able to reflect on the material and
case study using your own thoughts.
In this portfolio please reflect on the readings (1st column) and the learning
outcome (2nd column). Ask yourself in what way does the readings provide
insights into the learning outcome? Maybe they don’t! What are your
thoughts?
Are there other insights that you can make from other units that you have
