P3 Role played by the public services in emergency planning
Royal Berkshire hospital has play an important role during emergencies like earthquake.
Any hospital has to be prepared for any emergencies and have to formulate a proper plan to react
any time during emergencies. It has to work with various departments closely in order to provide
required service to the people whenever required and should have a systematic examination of
the information in order to find a potential risks and emerging issues which allows for the better
preparedness for the emergencies (Han and Chen, 2017).
Royal Berkshire plays an important role as city response team during earthquake
emergencies and helps to support people by providing medical aids to people. Hospitals are the
first organisations which are to be ready for the emergencies so these organisations play an
important role in emergency planning within the hospital. The hospital has significant plan to
track the status of maximum occupancy within the hospital and how to adjust more patients in
the hospital during earthquake. It has to remain active and available 24/7 for public and for this
purpose it has to manage its shifts and employees timings. It has to assure that all necessary
equipment are available in the hospital if not it has to make the necessary stock available like life
saving drugs, vaccines and life supporting equipments which can help in serving people during
earthquake. Also, has to keep their doctors, nurses and other available and should provide
necessary instruction how to deal in emergency situations. It has to keep other organisations
updated during emergencies like police departments and fire and service departments and have to
set collaboration with the internal departments. This emergency situations bring many
departments together representing different cultures, languages so it has to overcome the
challenges of these cultural and language barriers in order to understand each other and patients.
Royal Berkshire has to set collaboration with its different branches and remain updated about the
situations that would exist during earthquake. It has also plays a key role in maintaining smooth
flow of patients within the hospital and has to be prepared for the insurgencies that may arise
during emergencies. So, Royal Berkshire has to play an important role during emergency

P4 Main considerations which public services must address while planning for emergency
situations
Emergency situations can arise at any time so, public service organisations have to be
prepared for various types of emergencies. There are various considerations which public service
organisations must consider while planning an emergency situation in any area. Royal Berkshire
has to be aware various factors during emergencies, it has to remain active and has to frame a
plan which could help during emergencies. Main reason for emergency planning is to reduce the
impact of emergencies and to react immediately during emergencies (Cao and et.al., 2018.).
Following are the considerations which Royal Berkshire should address when planning for
emergency situations:
Risk Assessment: Risk assessment may be defined as a process of identifying the potential
hazards and what could be the impact of hazards if it occurs. An organisation should posses risk
assessment resources which could help in assessing the risks faced during earthquakes this is a
major factor which should be considered during emergency planning (Zysk, 2019). It can make
use of Risk Assessment Portals, EPA tools etc which can help in assessing the risks during
earthquakes. They can also set the meeting with geologists which can help the hospital in
assessing the impact of earthquake on lives. If, risks are assessed properly it can help in planning
