INTRODUCTION
Internet refers to the global system of interconnected computer networks on which every
informations are available (Cui, 2016). It plays an important role in education of students and
helps in improving the education system as well as the level of education that is provided to the
students. Teachers are using internet to provide more and more information to their students
which helps them to gain bright students. When students are curious about their topics, internet is
the one by which they can search on their topic and solve the curiosity.
Present report will explain both negative and positive impact of internet on students of
university and will lay emphasis on challenges and measures which is related to the internet
security and internet privacy.

Compare and contrast between positive and negative aspects of the internet
Internet is very useful for the internet. Due to internet, education system has change
dramatically. It has change the life of students. But it also brings a lot of negative issues
regarding internet which hamper the students lives and their career. There are some positive and
negative aspects of internet which are as follows -
POSITIVE ASPECTS OF INTERNET -
Treasure of Study Material – Internet is basically known for web of knowledge. Students of
university get relevant and accurate study materials and data from the different sites for every
subjects they are studying. This help them to get more knowledge about the related topics at less
time and with low cost.
Online Education – Today every facilities are available on online than how education can not be
provide these facilities. Students who can't afford the huge fees for the university, can pay low
fees and study from online. This helps students to do study without any sacrifices or any
compromise with their career or studies. This also helps those students who wants to earn
money, for that they can take education at the home or anywhere.
Reliable Communication – There are so many technological developments in education which
helps students to get access of any teachers or experts or professors in anywhere at whole world.
This helps students to do communicate with those teachers or professors or experts who are

expertise in their subjects which helps universities students to gain knowledge regarding subjects
or career.
Learning Opportunities For New Things – Internet allows various education parties to
interchanges of various kinds of ideas, theories and topics related to the study materials. It also
allows them to provide servers, books, journals, resources centres and online tools etc. for
university students for the researching and related activities which improves their researching
skills and they also learn a lot of new things related to their subjects.
Equality Feelings And Respects - Education is the basic human process. The positive impact of
internet on education of university students has only increased the educational process, bringing
class, students and professors, experts and teachers on a single platforms (online and e-education
platforms). Regardless of gender, race, age, geographical location, language or any disability,
gives equal opportunity to everyone in the field of Internet education which improves the
equality feelings and respects for each other (Rajeswari and et.al., 2017).
NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF INTERNET -
Wastage of Time – Due to a lot of study materials available, students of university do search a lot
on internet which waste their real study time. This lead them to get low marks in their written
and practical examination. It also spoils their active schedule and make them lazy. And this is
known as Non-essential internet usage when students do aimlessly search on the internet
regarding their study materials.
Internet Addiction – As per a survey, more than 40% university students are becoming addicted
to the internet which is not beneficial for them and their future regarding career. They got
distract from their own purpose and become lazy at young age. This also impact their learning
abilities and working skills. Overall internet has doing negative impact on their personality and
mental development.
Lack of Face To Face Communication – Due to internet and a lot of social networking sites,
students are spending their time on that social networking sites where they make new friends
from any parts of world and shares their joys and sorrows with them. Also, due to online
education system, they don't even feel important to go and attend lectures in their university
which make distance between teachers and classmates from them.

Lack of Creativity – Lack of creativity is one of the major negative impact due to usage of
internet. Due to all the study materials available on internet at less time and easily, students don't
make any efforts for the study, which hamper their creativity and skills.
Cyber Bullying – It is one of the major problem which university students are facing now. There
are so many people on internet who are targeting these students from university, say them ugly
words, make them puppets for their own wrong beneficial and bullied them on internet which
impact their overall development (Pontes, Szabo and Griffiths, 2015).
Challenges of security and privacy during the usage of internet
Internet security refers to the aspect of internet which deals with the browsing security
and world wide web security. Internet privacy refers to the aspect of internet which deals with
the privacy of personal data of users on internet. There two terms are interrelated with each
other. Due to a lot of usage of internet in today's time, students are facing some issues regarding
internet security and privacy which are as follows -
Malicious Software - Malicious software is any software which is design with the intention to
damage the device on which that software are operating. This lead to leakage of privacy data of
students.
Phishing – It is one of the major challenges, university students are facing. It refers to the
activity in which fraudulent attempts are done to obtain the personal data such as name, email id,
bank details and card details etc. Students of university don't understand who is wrong and who
is right. This lead so many people to do phishing by becoming fake and trustworthy person in
front of students.
Hacking – Hacking refers to the activity in which hacker (who are involved in hacking) do
unauthorized intrusion into someone else electronic device or online platforms. They do this for
some wrongfully purpose such as taking revenge, destroying someone's life or leaking someone's
personal life etc. Students are also becoming target for the hackers.
Identity Theft – It creates a lot of problems for the students such as their identity stolen, their
money stolen and blaming the innocent students by creating account on their names etc. This
lead them to face legal actions at the young age without committing any kinds of crime.
Tracking - Every website you visit uses cookies and accept / agree buttons. They are now
obliged to inform users about it, so we have to click "accept" or "agree" to continue. These
Cookies and accept / agree store a certain amount of data specific to a particular customer and

website. With the help of tracking tools and techniques, they can get the details of data which
students did search in the past.
Big Data Security And Privacy – Some people who are expert in computer and data security field
are taking advantages of big data security and privacy. They are putting wrong data regarding
subjects on internet which hamper the students' career and knowledge. This is a bigger
challenges for the upcoming generation (Borgohain, Kumar and Sanyal, 2015).
Trading of Privacy – Students of university don't understand the importance of privacy due to
addiction of internet. This lead students to put their personal information on various websites and
social networking sites accounts and companies are using these data for their individual profits
and trade these personal data to wrong person.
Fake Identity – Students of university are making fake ids through social networking sites and
put wrong data about their age, name, address, status and gender etc. this lead them to take
wrong benefits of another people and innocent child. This is a major security issues on internet
that how students are making fake ids.
Measures of security and privacy during the usage of internet
For the measurement of these issues, Teachers should provide education and training to
their students for the issues and their ways to overcome with these issues. Students should install
antivirus software and firewall system in their device to prevent with these issues. Students
should not use public storage for the storage of private data and information (Yang and et.al.,
2017).
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it has been summarized that internet has impact the education
level of students positively and negatively. But this not only impact their educational level but
also impact their development level, creativity level and learning power. Also, due to a lot of
usage of internet, children are target for the creation of privacy and security issues regarding
internet.
